@jlhpsu Not sure where he will end up. He has only heard back from 2 schools so far. If he got into Schreyer, it would be hard to turn down. Still waiting for a few that will not come back until late March. Interesting process.

Just checked the portal and instead of the under review, which it has had the past 19 weeks, it now says “Your application has been updated. Please check back soon for a status update.” Does anyone know when I should expect this update? Thank you in advance for your help and good luck to everyone!!
@thekingofdelco - I don’t think you should take offense. I don’t think zipbags was making a dig at all. We think ALL our kids deserve to get in. I think most are just trying to make sense of this process and some of the decisions we are seeing. Honestly, my kid did not get in to Main for Computer Engineering and his stats appear to be a good bit higher than your sons and he had alot of honors and AP classes, lots of ECs. My nephew did not get in to DUS UP Summer and his stats are 100s of point higher SAT wise and his GPA was the same as your sons and SMEAL is very competitive. So I think folks that are getting turned down are just trying to make sense of it. We are all very happy for all the kids the are getting accepted.

@Nrnjersey124 we had the same status change 2 days ago and then it went back to under review. I called and was told it was an automatic status change as the application goes through steps in the process. Ugh. We are back in under review mode.
ANYBODY I applied September 1st, and had EVERYTHING in by the second or third week of September. All of my materials were received by Penn State but my status STILL states that my materials are being verified? I have called multiple times and they said they have everything but it still hasn’t changed to under review. They said I would get a decision by the end of the priority date which is Jan. 31st but I really do not think I will get a decision by then, my application status isn’t even under review yet!! Every time I call they say they have everything and that I will receive my decision by then but I really am worried. Any advice? Any help PLEASE. Thank you so much for your help.
@frecklledtatertot You’ve done all you can do if you have verified with admissions. It’s understandable that you’d be concerned. Have you talked to an actual admissions rep? Call between 1-5pm and ask to speak to an admissions rep - not just the person who answers the phone (they are not usually admissions reps). You may have a hard time getting someone on the phone on these last few days, but it’s worth a try. If they say you’ll have a decision, then hopefully you do! It’s strange to not move to “under review” if they have everything and it’s been verified. But maybe it’s a glitch in the system.
@thekingofdelco You are new here so I can understand why the comment might have taken you off guard, but if you’ve read all of @zipbags other comments throughout the thread, he is always very supportive and congratulatory. That being said, your sons stats are under average for Smeal admissions. Many kids have posted on here with denials with much higher stats…even for DUS which is far less competitive. So, I think what was trying to be said, is that you should feel very happy that there was something admissions saw in your son’s application that was not simply stat based. Because based on stats, that decision is unusual. We are ALL happy for everyone who gets in. But we also all try to figure out the process and it’s impossible when comparing stats of who got in and who didn’t. Please don’t take offense. It was more of a matter of fact statement rather than a statement of your son’s worthiness. If PSU says he’s worthy, then he is!
Does anyone know when/if penn state sends a financial package?
My son did not get accepted to UP for engineering rather a branch campus. He has called and emailed and there has been no change to his online acceptance so far. So be extremely grateful for the acceptance and accept your congratulations as they come. Bottom line it is a decision that your child has to make where he feels comfortable. All penn state campuses are worthy of our children and provider a world class education with exemplary job placement.

I’ve been reading everyone’s comments since December which have provided me with a lot of information and hope. My S was just accepted to Penn State University Park for DUS Fall admit. We are beyond excited as this was his top choice. I contemplated on whether or not I wanted to post his stats, but decided to do so in hopes of providing someone with hope and reassurance for someone else. He applied mid September.

@psugrad00 Congrats! His GPA is within the middle 50% and SAT only accounts for 1/3 of the decision. I’m so glad PSU can see past standardized tests! My oldest is a freshman (both parents alumni) and did fine on standardized tests - but my son who’s a junior in HS does not test well at all…so this does give me hope! Congrats again!

I checked my portal everyday with no change, but I Checked my portal this morning and was honestly shocked but also incredibly excited to see that I have been accepted to Penn State’s 2020 class for DUS! I applied exactly on November 23, and my SAT being sent on the 30th. When applying I had checked summer option for if I didn’t get in straight for fall, but turns out I don’t even have to do summer ! I’m so happy, Penn state was my first choice! Anyway here are my stats:
