Thanks, @judyvegas! Your post is super helpful- your daughter sounds very similar to mine. I plan to talk to her about it again tonight. I will definitely message you if I have any more questions. Thanks again!!
Guys any idea what is the maths test about ?? After we enroll for pen state engineering ??
ALEKS is for placement. You want to score high enough to take calc 1.
^Unless your major doesn’t require calculus or specific math and you can take general math classes like ‘Math and money’.
If your majorbdoes require specific math classes you really don’t want to start in remedial math.
Has anyone gone to the meetings they’ve scheduled for new students? We’ve registered for one in north NJ and I’m just wondering what to expect, what the topics covered will be, etc.
MYOS is right, as always
I think heyitsme is going into engineering, so that’s why I said Calc only.
We went to the local meeting for new students. It was basically a word for word repetition of the beginning speech that was given if you attend accepted student visit on campus. My daughter felt it wasn’t useful. The only thing we learned is that there is someone from her elementary school that will be attend PSU. @Leapie45 And we learned that the local alumni chapter will offer scholarship opportunities that will be available in the summer.
Apart from the noise and partying, how are the condition of the East Halls? Are they clean enough to live in? And what about heating? I assume it’ pretty cold at penn. Also, how far are the classes away from the East Halls? like a 5 min walk?
5-10mn by bus (+waiting for the bus). You’d choose to walk only if your classes are in buildings that aren’t too far (college of agriculture).
Is anyone doing the stay over in April ?
@dankshrek My daughter is in East and walks to all of her classes except for one that is all the way over in the IST building. She takes the bus for that one. Otherwise, she is at her classes within 15-18 minutes. They are all in the Old Main area of campus. The halls are clean. Most of the dorms at PSU are the old kind of dorms…cement block walls, hallway bathrooms, etc. They are old. But they are adequate. My D has really liked living in East. If you have any specific questions you can DM me.
Thank you! I sure will DM you if i have any questions!

I want to major in industrial engineering here as its one of the best industrial engineering college in the country.
I also would like to know how is life at penn state.
I am keenly waiting on my decision.
do penn state scholarships and financial aid come through the mail or online?
Just an FYI, I received a Facebook post and a Twitter notification from Penn State Admissions that Financial Aid awards will be available this week. It shows you how to access it when it becomes available.
My freshman son lives in East and he is not a big partier. I did not want him to chose East but he insisted because he wanted the “freshman experience.” I’m glad he stuck to his guns and lived in East. He did get the entire freshman experience. Good, Bad, and otherwise and I don’t think he’d change it for the world. He’s met great friends there and has also maintained a very good GPA. I think it’s easier for the kids to meet each other in East since they are all freshman. That said, of course there are the kids in East who party to much or are too loud or whatever and the East room are not updated, but that’s all part of the experience.
Also, it takes about 20 minutes to get to classes from East and about 10 taking the bus. But East is right near Beaver Stadium, Pegula Ice arena, and the Arboretum. The kids had a blast this winter sledding on the hills near the stadium when it snowed.
Does anyone has information on the employment data for undergraduate engineers through campus/otherwise. I could get get the data for business as a major but not for others. It will be good comparison vs other campuses…if available.
Is it likely to get admitted to psu university park if I applied a week ago ish? gpa: 3.6 uw sat: 1790. I am OOS Southern California
@jerseycali Not sure. You are passed the priority deadline. So requirements get a bit more stringent. Did you apply DUS (undecided) and also summer as an option? That might have helped.
@zipbags I did apply undecided but i did not do the summer option
