I’m not sure if i’d want to live in a single dorm on my own or with a room mate? is it worth it?
Your chances of having a single as a freshman are relatively small, so I wouldn’t overthink that one…
Where do you go to view and/or accept you financial aid awards? ELion or LionPath?
Single dorms are also about $2k more expensive per year.
@burbs20 Lionpath
Thanks @japsmom - we were delayed with accessing it because of a verification needed for a SS#. Now that we have access, no surprise here – only loans. Time to get a 2nd job!
International RD decisions in mid-april, what the fuck…
For anyone trying to avoid supplimental housing:
I applied in February (Eberly College of Science --Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and went under review for FOUR weeks and just got my acceptance on 3/29. After speaking with the housing department, I was told that those who get stuck with supplimental housing are students who submitted their deposit after april first, and that the “tipping point” for supplimenfal housing begins in “mid-april”. That being said, I put my deposit in right away. Supplimental sounds like a nightmare. If anyone is interested in rooming, feel free to shoot me a DM since the roommate system is completely random if you choose not to match with someone. I’m an out of state student from Raleigh, North Carolina.
@Cimbom There is no RD at Penn State. When exactly did you apply?
@wild23 we were at PSU this week for accepted students day and we had the opportunity to meet with my co-worker who is a freshman at PSU. She is in supplemental housing and LOVES it. She showed us her room. My son loved it also. It was a huge room with 4 beds and their own bathroom. They’re requesting supplemental for next year also. Just because your “stuck” in supplemental, they are not all bad. My friends son also has supplemental with 6 boys in the room and he likes it also.
There is no RD at PSU however for IS’s max date for intimation of decision is mid April. Students who applied at December (2015) end and had their all documents status updated as completed, at end of January, are still waiting for decision. Can’t fathom why such a long time eventhough the sheer size of the enrollment is understandable.

I applied to PSU at the beginning of January, and I have not yet got my decision back. I am so worried and nervous, since PSU is my dream school. When will I receive my decision?
@Shinch If you are an international student, as per PSU website, you will hear back from them by mid April. I know it can be quite nerve wrecking not knowing till the last moment. Hang in there. You will know in less than 10 days. In a larger scheme of things, it might quite work out for you. Good luck !
@FAAH11 Is this info in the website? Would every international student hear by mid April even if he applied in March?
@MYAHMQ Information can be found on the following link: http://admissions.psu.edu/apply/deadlines/ Choose the third option within the page “International Applicants”.
International students who applied by the priority filing date of February 1, would hear back by mid April. Anyone who applied AFTER the priority filing date would hear back on rolling basis i.e. as and when the decision is made.
@FAAH11 Thank you very, very, very much
Although I knew that the results will come out in Mid- April, I was still worried seeing friends got their decisions back
Hearing from you calm me down a lot
Thank you again
Here’s the shocker, supplemental housing at Penn State is actually pretty awesome. Yes, you may be in a room with 6-8 people at first, but it’s a huge two-story room! Having an instant friend group is also a plus. There’s a supplemental room this year that had so much room they put a full-size trampoline in there! Don’t stress about it, many upperclassmen ask for supplemental for the atmosphere and cost savings. Mine was not in supplemental, but was in a ‘forced triple’ in McElwain as a freshman. Three girls sharing a room for two…and you know what? They LOVE it. So much that they are sharing a room again next year. My daughter requested East for the ‘true freshman experience’, but has 100% enjoyed McElwain in South. So don’t stress if housing throws you a loop…when it all comes down to it, you are at Penn State, it’s gonna be awesome no matter what.
@FAAH11 Thank you so much!
Anyone applied by Feb.1 received the aid?
