Does anyone know if there is a certain GPA requirements once in the nursing program at UP?
My application is quite usual.
I didn’t finish my high school, and after junior year I went to a community college in Seattle.
And I was trying to apply as a transfer student, but I’m not qualified to be a transfer because even though I will get my high school diploma in March, I still need to take 15 college credits to be a transfer applicant.
As a result, they changed my status to Freshmen Applicant.
College Credit: 113 quarter credit
College GPA:3.8/4.0
SAT: 1370
Toefl:91
No recommendations since I choose transfer application and it didn’t require them.
And I’m still waiting for the decision.
I will have both my associate degree and high school diploma in late March.
Yea, To be considered as a transfer student you’ll need 130 quarter credit which is equivalent to 30 credit hours.
So I don’t know how will they consider my application since it’s pretty unusual,
So you are getting a GRE? I’m confused as to how you’ll be getting your high school diploma in late march.
@kearbear You can read through the “Academic Success” section of the Nursing handbook to see what the academic requirements are to successfully complete the program. There are minimum grades in certain classes. https://sites.psu.edu/collegeofnursing/files/2016/11/General-Bachelor-of-Science-Student-Handbook-28s03o7.pdf
No, my school has a high-school program and we need to take the high-school equivalent classes in the college in order to get the diploma. So I’m taking the last high school course this winter quarter(end in March) and will graduate from the two-year college.
But PSU requires “Student who has attempted or will have attempted 18 or more semester hours of college course work at a regionally accredited college/university before enrolling at Penn State. (Please note: transfer status is based on credits earned after high school graduation.)”
Does anyone know when the award summary that PSU sends out will come?
So I will have more than 60 hour credit after this quarter and I don’t know if the PSU admission will consider my college GPA
@ZIHANz : this is called dual enrollment, pseo, running start, early college, and because it’s done before high school graduation it doesn’t count as a transfer but as a freshman. Then you’d get advanced standing from the classes you got good grades and that are similar to yours.
Oh, thank you for the explanation. But the PSU admission didn’t ask me for recommendations.
@dpschool I received a scholarship award for smeal college of business at altoona (forgot what the award was called but possibly could be provost, I have to double check) but I decided to ask to be re-evaluated for economics at UP and was accepted for summer 2017. It says in the letter that the award will transfer to any campus if I change to any campus. I guess I lucked out.
@ZiHANz : even freshmen don’t need recommendations.
It’s your GPA X your test scores.
Does anyone know when the award summary that PSU sends out will come?
@MYOS1634 So will my college GPA weighs more or the high school GPA does since I didn’t take lots of courses in High school.
All academic classes so if you took more college classes your college classes would count for more.
Anyone get financial aid info yet. IT is the middle of the month
Does anyone know Is statistics a competitive major in PSU?
From a mom with a 2020 student at UP Schreyer
My D received her FA on a different day than her Schreyer acceptance.
She did have an unusually fast acceptance to PSU Eberly College of Science. She was accepted two weeks after she sent in her application in November.
She is OOS and still received so many scholarships that we practically pay less than a resident tuition.
This came as a shock to us.
She loves it there and has found Schreyer to be very helpful with informative seminars, constant emails with internships, research and other opportunities.
She has found UP campus to have a welcoming atmosphere.
She has also received enough scholarships to practically cover her Study Abroad costs for this summer.
Reason I write this is so OOS don’t loose hope bc going to this university could be a possibility!
PSU does value dedicated students!
