My son was invited to apply for the milennium
Scholarship, minimum $15k a year, no provost offer, very high scores and 42 college credits already. Anyone else get the email to apply?
Also applied to Schreyers should hear about that by March

Re the Provost Award, I received this response back from PSU Admissions when I sought clarification on who receives that award (emphasis mine):

So for those of us who were hoping Penn State would be doling out those awards this year as they did last year, it’s not gonna happen. :-(

S got a private email about a Millennium Scholarship worth min $15/K a year. Has anyone else applied? It’s not the Gates MS, it’s for MD/PhD, also applied Schreyer, waiting til Feb for that answer.

^^^

Is the scholarship only for those who will be doing MD/PhD? What if the student changes his mind or his grades aren’t good enough?

Is this some kind of BS/MD/PhD deal?

No. It is for students who INTEND to go on to a phd or md/phd program. No legal obligation. How could they?
When you attend the interview (I assume they will do this again) they will describe how they are looking for the “right” student, not necessarily the best. They need people who will buy into their program. You give up a lot of independence for that 15K. It’s great fro some, but not others.

amomoffour: D also applied to Millennium Scholars Program and Schreyer Honors. She hasn’t heard back on status of Millennium application yet. Did your son’s email include invite for interview weekend? We are curious to know when it is…

I didn’t see a date of interview, but they said he would hear by the 30th. did you have the quick turn-around of like 7 days? you mean interview for MS not SHC right?

that’s a minimum of 15K, and scholars say you don’t give up independence, did you get the scholarship?

Yes, I mean for MSP. When you mentioned the private email, I thought your son had been notified that he’d been selected for an interview. My daughter submitted her application back in November and is really hoping to be invited to the interview weekend. We weren’t sure of the timing for the final notifications. Good to know that it will be next week!

I hadn’t heard of the scholarship until we got an email asking to apply. IDK about the weekend, or if interviews were included. How did you find out about it?

My daughter received a letter asking her to apply.
