PSU (University Park) Class of 2019 Decision Thread

I think the snow is likely worse today because it’s moving east.

@mick80, yeah I’m not bitter but it’s a bit discouraging. This is my 5th rejection/defer.

I still have the “reviewing credentials” status, when will it update to “coming days?” I’m getting worried

If my application status changed over the weekend (probably Friday) to “coming days” should I be getting notified today?? I’m really nervous and this waiting is just making it worse

I’ve had the "reviewing your credentials"status since Thursday and still no word.
I just want to hear what my chances of getting in are, I applied for the summer as an economics major in the college of liberal arts, my stats are as follows:
gpa: 3.6 W
sat:1720
northern nj
medium public #10 in state
male, white
over 20 honors and AP throughout high school
9 Varsity letters in 3 sports, 2 year captain in one
involved in church charities and a charity to bring ice hockey to underprivileged kids in Newark, NJ
Currently hold an internship with Hennion & Walsh, one of the largest brokerage firms in NJ
Graduated HS in 2014,currently taking around 15 college credits and I hold a 3.9 GPA so far

My son said that at least 6 kids asked him today if he’s heard from PSU, because they haven’t. None of us has heard of any decisions for our school in the last two weeks or more (guessing there are 65+ applicants this year). The 7 or so decisions we’ve heard about so far were from before Christmas. His is still “reviewing credentials”. Re-re-re-re-re-re-reviewing, I guess.

@presidentRIKE‌ when did you apply? Most people have the “reviewing credentials” status for weeks or months. Your decision isn’t imminent until you get the “coming days” status. But if you applied by November 30, you should know by Friday.

I don’t believe that all statuses have been updated for the day today. Most updates occur after business hours and by the looks of this thread, none of the people with the coming days status got an update yet today. Last Friday I called and they told me that a decision hadn’t been made yet and I shouldn’t expect a coming days status until this week for my D. Then she got coming days on Friday evening! Point being, I’m not sure the people answering the phones know everything.

I got an email saying that they received all of my required materials on October 11th and my status has been “reviewing your credentials” since then. I have a 3.73 weighted gpa and a 1830 SAT and I applied as a Bio major. My sister is currently a senior here and my grandmother is also an alumni. I only put university park as the location I want to go to and I’m feeling really discouraged. Hopefully I’ll have an update soon.

FINALLLLLLLLLLLY COMING DAYS. It really doesn’t help that I’m going to be snowed in the next couple of days and have nothing better to do than to check my portal, but I’m just happy it updated. I thought it was never going to happen.

@jlhpsu‌ My portal literally just changed within the last 30 minutes so that lady on the phone must of been wrong.

@scohen99, @jlhpsu What a surprise the lady on the phone was wrong! (heavy sarcasm). They should just put on a recording with the FAQ’s before you get to a person. Still “coming days”, no change since Fri night.

Believe it or not, I’m in NC on my first college visits trips with son #2. Lol

perhaps its a mixture of varied responses by admission and misreporting of the responses here by those who called. People sometimes hear what they want to. My experience with similar situations is that people won’t be satisfied until they get the response they are looking for.
Personally, I would not assume everything reported on an internet forum is exactly what they were told. The master of this topic (I do not mean this in a negative way) has posted links to online chats with admissions and reported what was written on PSU’s twitter account and directed people to it. If karma exists, she will get a positive response soon but for any other reason than she has provided others with accurate information and support (Good luck, i really do wish your D gets in). I agree with one post. It baffles me why PSU uses this “final stages” and “in coming days”. Just send an email when the decision is made.

@luvthej I agree with you that the “telephone game” (we parents are old enough to know this game, right?) as we do here can cause crossed signals and inaccurate information to be relayed, though not intentional I’m sure. I think everyone is just trying to figure the process out - which is an exercise in futility as we have found. I also think that the people answering the phone are told “we update once a day, usually overnight”, so that’s what they tell us. Then the admissions counselors actually update more often…but the “standard” response is once a day so that they don’t get a thousand questions. But then they do get questions anyway because the process is so convoluted.

i got the coming days then it reverted back to reviewing creditionals

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ @jlhpsu

Status just changed to coming days: smeal (applied for summer as well)
gpa: 3.6(UW) 3.63(W)
sats: 1870
rigor:16 honors/AP
rank: 22/151

EC: NHS, class president(3 years), student council, honor roll every year, 10 varsity letters, 4 year captain, tons of clubs with leadership

chance?

Mine changed fir and still waiting…picture stayed the same and no mention of any other campus. Waiting is killing me. I was already accepted to OSU Fisher school of Business and Bentley. I have been checking periodically …and nothing

@psufriend18‌ my son had same sat, slightly higher GPA and was denied Smeal. Wish you better luck!

Ugh. Hope he has other top options. My gpa is a 3.7 and have a 28 ACT (30 super score) I applied Smeal and still waiting. Status changed late fri night. It’s very random as to who is in and who is deferred. Good luck to you

@pinkmd My daughter is a freshman. She applied from a tiny HS in New England. It was my understanding at the time that schools had to be registered with PSU to send them electronically. Since she is the first to apply from that HS, GC had to fax her transcript. He actually faxed them twice to be sure because we were nearing the 30th and her portal was not updated.
