PSU (University Park) Class of 2019 Decision Thread

Quick question. For those who got rejected, did the picture change when your status changed to “coming days”? I heard some people’s picture changed to a lion when they got the status change and they ended up getting rejected.

@greatwhiteway‌ I’ve heard of people doing the same for summer. My D has had the same boyfriend for over 2 Years. He is a year older and a freshman at Altoona. He will come home for the summer and my D will leave a few weeks later, but they have figured out him being an hour and a half away all year so they figure they will figure this out too. The point is, maybe he’ll be around forever or maybe not, but I told my D from the start, and she agreed, that she would make the plans the best for her and then they would figure out how to deal with it from there. Not the other way around!

Congrats to your son!!

@pros6640‌ you will probably hear tonight. And no, if you haven’t heard yet that does not mean a denial. plenty of people get accepted at the 11th hour. Good lucK!

Does anyone know how much the summer session cost?

How many do they accept for summer

@Sunrise97‌ @‌mrm925 I am not 100% sure how much summer costs, but I think around 7k. Keep in mind that the classes you take for summer are not extra classes. They are classes that will apply to your major so you would pay for them one way or another. The extra is for room and board for the 6 week session.
According to what I’ve read there is anywhere between 1,000-2,000 students that start in the summer, but because of the yield I believe they accept more than that.

Thank you

@jlhpsu Thank you!

@babycorn2005s my D received the same message. I believe I saw somewhere in the thread that others have received that messages and it will change to “coming days” - soon (not 2 weeks). But since last Thursday - that’s quite a while. I’m getting nervous about their records. Definitely submitted prior to 11/30 and followed up with a phone call at that time - and they confirmed they received. Not sure what to think.

I got into DUS fall but I applied to Smeal so should I call them and ask to be put in summer for Smeal.

@jlhpsu yes i applied before november 30th

I’m a little late on this but congrats to @jlhpsu I’ve been following the forum since the beginning, and am very excited to be part of the psu class of 2019

My daughter got accepted to PSU engineering for the fall. Would it clearly state if she had to go summer?

I’ve been following this thread since the beginning and I’m ecstatic to say that after waiting forever I got my acceptance to PSU-UP for Fall 2015!!

Applied Nov. 5th and got my decision about ten minutes ago.

Now I’m just waiting for Ohio State’s decision and they just got all my materials. If I do get into OSU I’ll most likely be declining my offer of admission from Penn State. However, I haven’t been able to visit either one of the campuses…

@babycorn2005s Then you should hear by Friday. People who have had that status and called have been told they would hear by Friday. You can always call, but if you had all of your materials submitted by priority, then they guarantee a decision by January 31st.

@Tessie22 Yes, it would say she was accepted for Summer 2015 if it were for summer. If it’s for fall, her acceptance would say for Fall 2015.

@BigBang231 You must have applied for DUS and not Smeal because they don’t have second choice majors. They only evaluate you for one major. That being said, you have two choices…stick with DUS fall (which is what I’d do). There is nothing in being a DUS major that hinders you whatsoever from getting into Smeal when everyone declares their major in sophomore year. OR, you can call and ask to be re-considered for summer in Smeal. But at this point, you’d be after everyone that applied by priority. Honestly, DUS works great. Most people change their majors anyway. You can absolutely work on the requirements for Smeal while in DUS. Read up a few pages and there were a few people talking about it in this thread today. Congratualations!

@Aquablue0128 Congratulations! and thanks! :slight_smile:

I know I applied for smeal I see it on my application. @jlhpsu‌

Realize, though, that those GPAs are self-reported. Somebody please correct me if I’m “misremembering,” but as I recall from last year, PSU recalculates GPAs based on their exhaustive knowledge of high schools across the country. They’re looking at academic subjects and rigor.

Re LEAP, I was VERY impressed with the sound of the program last spring when we in the midst of comparing schools for my older son. It just so happened when we visited the Creamery (a must!), there was a group of students gathering outside to begin training as student advisors for the LEAP program last summer. I ended up chatting with a kid who really impressed me; he had signed up to work it because he’d gotten so much out the program himself. And he was in engineering, so don’t assume summer is second-class or intended for remediation. It’s tough to graduate in four years in a lot of majors, so starting early makes a lot of sense for a LOT of kids. Takes some pressure off, and as @jlhpsu stated, you’re going to pay for the credits one way or the other.
