PSU (University Park) Class of 2019 Decision Thread

@PERplexD‌ I will be curious to see the 2015-2106 common data set to see if the increase in applications is as great as they’ve indicated. According to this data set, they had about 50,000 applications last year.

When you get the coming days status how longs does it usually take? I got my status changed to coming days yesterday around 12 pm

Hi @babycorn2005s - Seemed to be in 24 hours the past couple of weeks (it was that way for my son and a lot of others I was following here)

Finally coming days status has appeared for my son! He applied for Fall DUS - called earlier to add summer. He’s another bubble kid - OOS (NJ), 3.4 GPA/1730 SAT. Very hesitant about giving up his “last summer” if he gets into the summer session.

Already accepted to UMass, Rutgers, USC (South Carolina), Loyola Maryland, Ithaca, Salisbury, Towson, and Drexel. Also waiting to hear from UConn, UMaryland, and UDel. Decisions, decisions!

Accepted a few days ago, yet I still can’t believe it. PSU is one of my dream schools, I’m still in shock especially since I felt sure I couldn’t get in. Got into Penn State University Park for college of liberal arts (doesnt sound as impressive as smeal or engineering to me but the majors here really suit my strong points!)

Stats:
SAT: 1850 (600 CR, 640 M, 610 W)
SAT IIs: didn’t take any
GPA: 88/100 so around 3.3, 3.4
Rank: i don’t really remember this but I wasn’t that good. (Top 30%-40% probably, out of 800ish kids)
Other stats:

Subjective:
Essays: I just took my common app essay but it was about my love for art
Teacher Recs: N/a
Counselor Rec: n/a
Hook (if any):

Location/Person:
State or Country: NY
School Type: very large public school (around 4k kids total)
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: female

Other Factors: summer volunteer for 2 years at a hospital…that’s about it

Considering my grades compared to everyone on this discussion, it’s definitely not crazy good but I’m honestly so so relieved to be accepted to PSU. I was also just wondering if PSU sends acceptance letters/packages through mail? I’ve recieved acceptance on the site and email already but I really want a package or letter to make sure I’m not dreaming or that this wasn’t a mistake, haha.

Also know that there aren’t many Asians at PSU, a little nervous about the drastic environment change since NYC has a lot of Asian-americans that I’ve become close friends with. However, I’m excited to be a part of penn state!

@oikawa congratulations! They will send out letters in the mail. For reference, my daughter was accepted on Monday and received the package today.

Is anybody OOS who applied in October still waiting for their decision? My son contacted the admissions, but they admonished him for not waiting till Jan 31st the promised date.

@imgreen2, @pinkmd, @TLD1267, my son has been accepted to the Eberly College of Science at Penn State UP for Fall 2015. Thanks for the support! Your recommendations were very helpful in successfully resolving an unanticipated, last minute issue with the receipt of his transcript. He’ll be attending an Accepted Student Program event at Penn State in March.

Acceptances now include Penn State, Maryland (College Park), Ohio State, Florida State, Indiana, Michigan Tech, Earlham, Hope, and Kalamazoo. Whether he chooses Penn State or another of these schools, he has options, and that’s good.

I was accepted around last week to the Eberly College of Science at Penn State- UP as well! I was really excited, as it’s in my top five!

So, did everyone who applied before the priority deadline hear a decision by 1/31? Anyone out there that still hasn’t heard back yet?

Three kids applied from sons’ school. One was accepted couple of weeks back. My son and one other friend didn’t hear yet. His application status still says…

"Your application is complete and we are reviewing your credentials. You should expect an admission decision in four to six weeks. Check back here for updates.

Status updated: 11/10/2014"

doesn’t apply to the last post, whose son’s status seems to indicate all was received by Nov 10th
reminder:
“Those students submitting a complete application, including transcripts and test scores, by November 30…”
Applications must be complete, not applied by Nov 30th

while sometimes people are too quick to call admissions, if I were you vkyusnj I’d call if you don’t receive a decision by 9AM tomorrow. I’d fear it slipped through a crack. I’d call as a parent and would approach it as "I am surprised we didn’t hear yet, is there something missing… and not why haven’t I heard by now….

After looking through 2 or 3 pages of this thread, I am amazed that I even managed to get into this school. My stats are definitely not up to par with them. Miracles really do happen guys!! Don’t feel down yet because I’m sure that even people like me without “perfect” or “superb” stats have a wonderful chance as well!!

Stats: (College of Liberal Arts: Political Science)
SAT: 1850 (only taken once)
SAT IIs: US History 620 (horrific, I know)
GPA: 3.6 (W)
Rank: top 25%
Other stats: no ACT

Subjective:
Essays: really good (almost 2 months of hard work, editing, and annoying my teachers haha)
Teacher Recs: I don’t think I submitted any.
Counselor Rec: Ditto above.
Hook (if any): Ummm I play 2 varsity sports (4 year swim, 3 year water polo and captain for all 3 years) and I am also Debate captain, so I guess my leadership roles were good? My essays were also pretty good though, so that might have also been a factor.

Location/Person:
State or Country: CA
School Type: public and large
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: female

Other Factors: I did not join a lot of clubs/organizations because I only committed myself to the particular few that I truly enjoyed, mainly sports and debate. I did a good amount of volunteer work 150+ hours. I also had some awards, so that helped too.
General Comments:
To the people who are still waiting for their acceptances: You have a chance. Seriously. Don’t falter now.
To the people who plan to apply in the future: Test scores and GPA do not define you clearly. I truly believe that extra curriculars, clubs, sports, etc. play a vital role in your personal development and admissions chances since it shows long term commitment (it’s never too late to start them now!!). Oh and for your essays, remember to stay positive!!

My daughter received her acceptance notification today. OOS from California.

Stats: (College of Liberal Arts: Political Science)
SAT: 1810
Reading 640, Math 550, Writing 620
GPA: 3.6 (W)
Rank: top 25%

Not sure if she wants to attend but expect to visit in April.

@calidad4455 congrats!
Just some food for thought, the later she sends in her housing deposit the more likely she will end up in supplemental housing. The acceptance and housing fees are $330 and are non refundable, but if you have a reasonable chance that she will be going there, it’s not an overwhelming fee to pay to ensure she doesn’t end up in supplemental housing (7 or 8 ppl in a large room). If she doesn’t pay the deposit until April, chances are much higher for supplemental.

@jlhpsu‌ my son has has “coming days” since Friday…any idea how long I still need to wait for an answer? I thought it was 24 hours…

My son was accepted to Summer DUS tonight!!! He is giving it serious consideration pending the results from his remaining applications. Congrats to all that have been accepted!

Finally accepted tonight ~ Communications Summer!!! So thrilled!!

@panama47 My daughter had the coming days on a Friday and heard on that Monday. 24hrs. doesn’t apply on the weekends. Their official stance is 1-3 business days. My guess is you will hear tonight or tomorrow. Good luck!

Thank you @jhpsu!! Wish us luck as he applied to Smeal !!
