PSU (University Park) Class of 2019 Decision Thread

@rbk2704 No, I’m not !!!

@ComMITment‌ You can still ask to be reconsidered for DUS (undecided). Engineering is one of the toughest majors to get into at Penn State. But as a DUS major you can still take any first year engineering classes or any classes that Engineering majors take their first two years. You may be able to get in if you request a re-evaluation for DUS and perhaps a summer start. Others here have done the same thing.

@jlhpsu Ok thanks

Anyone apply to Schreyer?

SAT IIs: Math2(800); Physics(780)
GPA: 3.78UW, top10%
Don’t know why…guess they ran out of seats for CS.

@hanssi7941 I’m speechless. Guess there’s a lesson for HS juniors to plan on applying no later than Nov. 30 next year (actually, later this year!). Your numbers – which Penn State claims is all that matters – are sterling. I understand perhaps being rejected by Ivy and upper upper tier, but a State University? I’m sure you’ll be attending an excellent school that will be fortunate to have you as a student.

@hanssi7941‌ your stats are indeed very good. I think Bruce is correct and that you simply applied too late. The further after Nov 30th that one applies the more competitive it becomes.

Perhaps you could call and see if you could get in to UP with a different major or starting semester. Some people have been successful in switching to a liberal arts or DUS major and/or summer start. Starting undecided would not hurt your overall plan. Especially since something like 80% of students change their major anyway.

Well I’m at least glad that I got into DUS evethough I didnt get into smeal. Penn State is my first choice so most probably Ill be attending this fall. I always thought I had a chance for summer but shocked to see I got into fall.

@ind1900‌ Congratulations
I will be looking forward to meet you there

@iwantengineering yeah me too. I’m soo excited are you there on facebook?

@ind1900‌ was there somewhere on the application to indicate that you are interested in DUS or did you call them after you didn’t get into Smeal?

@elra60 no I had to call them and when I did they told me smeal was full or something like that and they told me the best thing for me would be to DUS.

@ind1900 I heard that the spots were full at University Park…
I didnt get into smeal and they told me other campus’ are available for smeal. I really want to go to Penn State Main campus. Should I try what you did? Call them and ask for DUS?

@dlalsghk1007 they told me too that smeal was full too but they also told me that I could go to smeal for summer(idk how thats possible) but yeah call them and change to DUS. I’m in DUS an i’m definitely only trying to major in business. If you really want to go to penn state just call them. And its not difficult to go to Smeal from DUS as long you get a 3.5(for finance major) and 3.2 for all the other major you are guaranteed a spot.

Well, I don’t know how or why, but we asked Admissions if my daughter could be considered for Fall if she went DUS instead of Smeal for summer - and they came back two days later and accepted her for Fall in Smeal instead of summer. Go figure! She is very happy!
