Hey guys… I got accepted in PSU and I have been taking a look at the dorms… I’m mostly preferring Pollock and East… Do any of these have any pros or cons that I need to take into consideration? Also are SLOs good?.. Do they cost the same? as I am an international, I have to look at the financial factor too. And besides I want to have a great college experience. please advice… Thanks

Reasons why overqualified kids get rejected:
1.) Your stats are so good that they believe you are using the school as a backup and want to only offer admission to people who will enroll
2.) You applied too late after the November 30th deadline
3.) You demonstrated too much financial need (Penn state is broke and can’t give much to their students)
4.) Something else about your application was not appealing enough (recommendations, extracurricular, rigor of classes, essay, etc)

@screennamepls I got accepted into the college of liberal arts for Econ but I wanted to switch to the smeal college of business (finance). I emailed penn state admissions asking if i could switch and so they re-evaluated my application for business and I got in. I’m not sure if its too late but if it is you could possibly switch majors during your first year as econ and finance would have common courses.

@Dahsksuebxmap I would disagree with #1 and #3 and to a degree, #4. The biggest reason that a very qualified applicant would be denied is that the applicant applied too late after the priority deadline and the seats for that major are filled. Penn State does not consider level of interest (#1), financial need (#3) or letters of recommendation (#4) in their application decisions.

Anyone know when Penn State will send their financial information (such as need based aid and general cost to attend)?

Financial aid is up today. Check elion account.

Saw my financial aid today. let’s just say i will DEFINITELY not be attending haha. They barely gave me any money. I’m going to go ahead and decline my offer

T^^ They never do

@iucollege Congrats! I am guessing you aren’t that thrilled with the summer session - but you should be really happy. Many students with your stats were outright rejected and assigned to branch campuses, so even a summer start is really good. The summer program at PSU is really good as well. My D has virtually the same stats as you and was also put in summer for DUS.

A lot EC’s and Outstanding Academic Achievements.

Best of Luck to Others.

Does anyone know how hard it is to get accepted off the wait list to UP? I was wait-listed and can’t find the wait list statistics on college board.

So I got into PSU Engineering (intended major Comp Sci) back in December… I considered it a safety school, but I pretty much hoping to get into my other choices (UCLA, UC Berkeley, and many others). My SAT scores, GPA, extra curriculars are all very good and in line with what they had to be, but with an unfortunate stroke of luck, I got into no other schools. As a PA resident, Penn State is obviously not very difficult to get into and bc of that, I never considered myself going to such a school. I have visited and liked the campus as well as the program. I just want to know from an OOS student, if PSU has the school has a positive reputation as living in state, the reputation is not as high as UC Berkeley, UCLA, UMich, and UVA are.

I get a lot of " oh wow’s" when I say that my daughter from Massachusetts is majoring in engineering at Penn State. It has a better rep here then in PA

@WannaBeCeo Penn State, specifically, Penn State engineering has a VERY high reputation academically everywhere. No, it’s not as high as those other schools nationally - but you didn’t get into those. Penn State is a top 25 Engineering school. Also, Penn State does not take location into consideration in their applications. It is just as easy or difficult for an OOS person to get in as it is for someone from State College.
