Psych major fullfilling vet school requirements @ CAS Cornell

I love psychology and I want to major in psychology at the college of arts and science at Cornell. I also want to pursue veterinary medicine and fulfil the prereqs for vet school. Does the psychology major require a lot of credits? Would it be hard to fulfil the psychology credits and fulfil vet school reqs at the same time?

The psych major at Cornell requires “a total of 40 credits in psychology (including prerequisites), from which students majoring in psychology are expected to choose”. Does that mean I will have a about 80 credits of classes I can take outside of the psych major that can fulfil my vet school requirements?

There were premeds who were psych majors back in my day and since there is no set “pre-vet” major, I think you should be fine. You’ll just need to be more careful about managing your schedule and working with your advisor.

If in doubt, call the department and ask.

Thank you so much. The Pre-vet guide is very helpful!
