I’m a prospective undergrad for Yale’s class of 2018 and I plan to major in psychology. I know, a bachelor’s in psychology isn’t worth much in the job field unless you go to grad school, which I do plan to do. However, in terms of finding jobs after undergrad, is a psychology degree from yale worth any more than in from less prestigious schools? Don’t get me wrong, Yale is my dream school either way but I want to be prepared and know just about how much leverage my degree will get me.

A degree from Yale in any field carries more weight than a degree from a lesser school – at least in the northeast and on the west coast. But Ivy League grads were not immune from unemployment in the past few years. The only control you have over that, though, is to work hard to make connections that may lead to jobs after graduation, and to be persistent at job hunting.

I’ve got a psych degree from Yale. I decided late senior year that I didn’t want to go to grad school, graduated with no job, and ended up temping. Here in the Midwest, I didn’t think the name brand gave me any leg up, but YMMV.
