i would appreciate some input on psychology at carleton. Do students actively do research and copublish with professors or is it more difficult to find? Any stories or anecdotes would be good too. My other choices are haverford and vassar. Does one of those stand out above the others?

Having lived in a triple with 2 psychology majors (they were juniors at the time), I can definitely say that students actively do research and experiments. I felt like a guinea pig many a time doing random pysch experiments for them. They also raved about their great professors much more than they ever complained about any of them. One of my roommates now has a job doing pysch research with a big state university, and is going to apply to grad programs in pysch soon.

what about published research with professors. do the majority of students do formal research beyond class assignments during their time at carleton?
