I find the “my conversation is so important it trumps everyone else’s right not to hear it” behavior obnoxious too, and I’ve encountered it a couple of times on planes. Once, just to be cheeky, and because I was grumpy from having to get up at 4am to make my flight, I started giving “advice” to the person who’d had a series of loud conversation in the seat next to mine. He looked befuddled, as if he couldn’t figure out how I knew what he’d been talking about. Go figure. The loud conversations did end though.
People using their fingers at buffets or salad bars. Or putting the serving tongs on the table/counter instead of the plate they found them on. Yuk.
Was on a recent group tour. The chain smokers took every opportunity. when the bus stopped to get a nicotine fix, but stood right outside the doors, causing the smoke to waft right up into the bus. We don’t want your nasty smoke in the bus, people!! Move further away and be courteous.
I don’t think you could bag at out TJ’s. The registers are set up so that the carts go to one side and the customer goes to the other. Like a smaller scale version of Costco.
@1or2Musicians That is how it set set up at my Tg, however, we don’t have bag persons, we either have to wait for the cahsier to bag (which they do), or, to save time and the waiting on the next customer in line, bag ourselves (which few people do), which is what I do.
Not a new one but it’s newly warm enough this year for this one to bother me now that I’m sleeping with the windows open again - people who leave their dog outside barking, especially late at night.
I frequent two different Trader Joes, one near my house and one near work. Parking is not really a problem at either one because both are located in larger shopping centers that have ample parking. I think it must be the stand-alone TJ stores that skimp on parking.

There is no conveyor belt in any TJs I have been in. The cashier bags the item directly after scanning it. It would seem awkward to me for me to go around the counter to the cashier’s side to help them with that. Are some TJs set up differently? What am I missing here?
‘The way car drivers run stop signs and red lights suggests that these bicyclists may be just applying their car driving “skills” to bicycling.”
Our police department recently looked at this and myth busted your contention I hear from many bikers. . . 100 cars at stop sign 2 run of stop signs. 45 “rolling stops”. Same cars at red lights. 1 run. 100 bikes. 69 all out run of stop signs, all but three other were slow but not stop. 28 run of red light.
They announced they will now be actively ticketing bikers who run stop signs and lights. There is a sign near big intersection that says bicyclists must obey the law.
@doschicos No conveyer belt in my TJ either, however, I do not go around the counter; I stand at the end of the counter and bag as the cashier is scanning. It’s very simple and saves time.
I always bag my own stuff at TJ’s, too. The aisle at the end of the counter is too narrow to stand in without blocking carts from exiting the store, so I just reach over from the customer side and bag the items as they are scanned. I bring plenty of bags and pack them as I like them to be, instead of having a store employee bag my 50 pounds of merchandise into two of the five bags I provided - lol.
After hearing all the tales of TJ parking woes, I am grateful for my store which is in a center anchored by a shuttered K Mart store. Acres of empty parking spots!
Since we’re stuck on TJs - I haven’t really been lately, but it seems like the last time I was in, they had changed the set-up to discourage customer bagging. Of course, if you have your own bag, that’s a different story.
People who let their loose dogs run at my leashed dogs with a happy-go-lucky “Oh, it’s all right, s/he’s friendly!” I’m still at peeved rather than furious because nothing serious has happened and I keep things under control.
Oh! A grocery peeve! People who tailgate. The ones who stand hard up against you when I’m cashing out, or the ones who start loading their items onto the belt when I’m still getting things from my own cart.
I think I’m having a peevish day.
Men who expect women to step aside in crowds or go around them.
Women who give you a dirty look if you hold the door for them.
Maybe next time I’ll run ahead and hold the door closed so they have to fight to get in and they can feel like they’ve defeated the patriarchy.
Just kidding!
“, I do not go around the counter; I stand at the end of the counter and bag as the cashier is scanning. It’s very simple and saves time.”
At our TJ cashier bags as they scan. They sometimes will place bread or delicate items next to them and the grab heavier items. You’d prachave to take something out of their hand to bag.
At our local small chain, grocery they don’t even let you take things out of your cart. They do it. And after the cashier rings up another person bags and yet ANOTHER person takes your cart to an area and then you pull up and they put your groceries in your car! No tipping allowed. It is slightly more expensive than some groceries but the service is impeccable.
I was shocked when we moved to Maine and learned I had to put the groceries on the conveyor belt. What?!?
They spoil you in Texas, for sure.
Guys spitting on the sidewalk…especially as you’re walking by.
Guys spitting when they’re outdoors really annoys me, seems most guys I know are perfectly able to swallow their spit when they’re inside, why do they have to spit when they’re outside?
Lost my dog this past summer but she was attacked by a loose dog when she was a puppy and she never really liked being around other dogs. I hated when people would have their dogs loose and they come charging at her while their owners are yelling that they’re friendly. Made her very nervous.
I hate, hate, hate Fox News on in so many waiting rooms- car dealer service, tire service, etc. Where I live it’s almost always Fox news but I really hate any loud TV noise in waiting rooms. It’s never anything I’m interested in watching.
When I used to walk my dog I always walked on the left side of the sidewalk with her on my left as that’s how we were trained in obedience class. If I saw someone coming I would get very close to the left edge of the sidewalk to signal that I was planning to stay on the left side. So many people coming at me would try to stay on their right. “Hello! I’m trying to put myself between you and my dog!” It would seem obvious but apparently not!
I don’t really understand the not wanting to dine in a restaurant with kids at all. I understand if they’re not well behaved but to each his own. I’m with the posters who took my kids to fine restaurants and taught them how to behave and took them out if they didn’t (can’t really remember having to do that). It was a treat to go out and they enjoyed the good food and family time and voila! now they are adults who know how to behave in restaurants! One funny incident though, when my S was 2 1/2 we moved to a new city. I read a review of a restaurant in the paper that we wanted to try. I called and asked if they were kid friendly telling them that I had a 2 year old. They assured me that was fine and I made a reservation. Well the restaurant turned out to be very small, very quiet and quite elegant. Thank goodness my S was a perfect angel and impressed all the waitstaff who took great care of us and him but it was not a relaxing meal, I was on pins and needles the whole time!
