Public Behavior - What Are Your Peeves?

At one chain I go to (“Market Street” in Texas), the cashier takes the groceries and scans them, then puts them on a conveyor belt for the sack person to bag. The sack person takes the cart to your car and unloads it for you. If you tell them you can do it yourself, they really push back (there are no cart holders in the parking lot). They won’t take tips.

At Whole Foods, Walmart, and Tom Thumb stores, you put the food on the conveyor belt yourself, the cashier scans it and bags. Don’t know about Kroger or HEB.

@tpike12

Hahaha! Your comment really hit my funny bone, thank you!

It seems like everywhere I go lately people are taking up grocery store aisles three wide in family groups. I can’t tell you how many times I’v been in Walmart (a place I already hate going) and an entire aisle was blocked with side by side carts of people who all seem to be together. Also, people who drive the motorized carts blindly around corners and down the middle of every aisle, seemingly not caring if they run over someone (this also happens at Disneyworld).

People who smoke on the sidewalk where I work and will not move at all when you pass through.

People that walk slow.

Has this been mentioned? When someone who wants to drive slowly is in the far left lane of the freeway. Totally your right to drive more slowly (to a degree) but that’s what the lane on the right is for!

I was in TJ’s today. So was a woman with her mutt. And I recognized the $10 “service animal” vest from Amazon.
Dog was on a 10-15 foot leash. Every aisle, this dog (while quiet!) had to sniff customers, get tangled up in feet and carts. And the owner was clueless.

But the parking lot was not bad!!!

Now THAT’S a serious pet peeve! Dishonest people with fake Service Dog or ESA vests on their pets just to take little foofoo or big fido with them. Especially when its so painfully obvious they are FOS. And the animals are ill behaved to boot. GRRRR!!!

It is a GINORMOUS pet peeve of mine, too!!!

Truth be told is that I do all the annoying behaviors and are annoyed by all of them, so in reality everyone is annoying who isn’t doing exactly I am doing at the same time I am doing it.

Hey, one of those people walking slow may be my husband who is waiting to get his knee replaced! One of my peeves is tailgating. Our school zone is 20 mph in the morning and strictly enforced but I always seem to get a ginormous pickup truck a foot off my bumper. I wish the cops would ticket those guys. I also hate when you schedule a service call, and they tell you that they’ll be there at such and such hour but then they are real late. I know you have a cell phone, call and let me know!

This.

How can people who own dogs, who know dogs, who claim to understand dogs not recognize that a dog reacts differently to strangers than to people it knows?

I’ve never had anyone put my groceries on the conveyor belt, although I think it would be wonderful when you’re at the stage where you have a kid in the cart seat.

When my kids were little, I lived in a town in New Jersey where it was unthinkable that the cashier would bag your groceries for you, even if you were holding your crying baby and simultaneously trying to keep your toddler from climbing out of the cart. Then, when they were old enough to behave themselves (or stay home alone if they preferred), we moved to Maryland where the cashiers do the bagging unless you make a point of doing it yourself.

We should have started out in Maryland and moved to New Jersey instead of doing it the other way around.

People who are so germ phobic they won’t be in the same airspace as you, two weeks post your recovery from a cold.

The slow walking people I get stuck behind are usually texting or otherwise staring down at their phones.

@Hello44, this woman probably regrets looking at her phone while walking.

When we were in the army and shopped at the commissary I once had a cashier admonish me for putting my groceries on the conveyor belt in the “wrong” order. We had to bag our own groceries there anyway so it really annoyed me that she would say something.
The vast majority of my pet peeves stem from driving- inconsiderate and or reckless and often entitled drivers.

Speaking of fake ESAs. Recently, I almost tripped over two fake ESA dogs while walking to my gate at SeaTac! People who keep their pets on long leashes at the airport - ugh!!!

People who run races with their dogs!! I ran a 5K in downtown Austin and tripped over a dog. I yelled at the owner. :frowning:

There was a yellow lab in our Whole Foods this morning! No service vest of any kind. Huge sign on the door that says service animals only. It’s a grocery store! Come on!

Another thing that irks me - sitting in a really nice restaurant, enjoying a really nice meal, and then flash lights start going off around me as fellow diners, not content with sharing their dining experience with their dining companion(s), they have to post it to FB or Instagram for a blow-by-blow of each mouthful! That, and selfie sticks are really annoying.
