Nice list! Eastern Washington’s SAT can’t be right - don’t you think that’s on the 2400 scale?

gadad-
I wondered about that…but look at their ACTs…32

But, it does seem weird.

Ummm…yeah no way. There’s a mistake.

agreed, no way Eastern Washington has those stats

I thought your list was very helpful and interesting. It must have taken a bit of work to compile. I also thought the Eastern Wash scores didn’t look right. I was curious and checked their website. It says:
“Averages of all incoming freshmen: 3.3 GPA, 980 SAT, 21 ACT”

Must be 1590 out of 2400…

Don’t even compare these shi**y schools to the Ivy League. My 8 year-old brothert could teach at UW-La Crosse

“Don’t even compare these shi**y schools to the Ivy League. My 8 year-old brothert could teach at UW-La Crosse”

Quoted for idiotcy.

^ the funny thing about that is that you spelt idiocy–idiotcy. lol

although I would have put it in those words, with the exception of a couple of those schools, those arn’t exactly schools for overachievers.

To put this in perspective…
The colleges near the top of this list:
New College is 86th in the US News National Liberal Arts Colleges ranking
The College of New Jersey is 5th among northern Masters schools
SUNY Geneseo is 14th among northern Masters institutions

Near the bottom:
Northwest Missouri State is 4th tier midwest Masters schools

These are the best public LAC-like schools based on SAT and ACT from the IPEDS website.

I think you would find a pretty sizeable contingent of bright students at each one.

Being 5th in the masters category isn’t that impressive, very few of the better schools are in this category.

These might be good schools, but hardly “public ivies.”

the Academies “LAC-like”??? --hahahhaahahahaha

slipper-
Keep in mind that some of the widely accepted Public Ivies don’t have the same SAT levels as the real Ivies. Indiana U Bloomington SAT 75th percentile is 1230. I think U of Vermont is about 1260. I am not sure where the cutoff would be in the above list. I was perhaps over-inclusive.

bluebayou-
The Service Academies are some of the best liberal arts colleges in America. Yes, they are LAC-like, more so than many in the list above that have a large graduate student body. The military academies are relatively small and have no graduate students. They are similar in some ways to VMI which is classified as an LAC by US News. The military academies are classified as “Baccalaureate Colleges” (LACs) by the Carnegie Classification system.

You’d better watch what you say. A military academy graduate might be your commanding officer some day. And, see a professional about that laugh.

By the way, the above schools comprise about the top 50% of all public LACs.

The Service Academies don’t fit the “normal” definition of an LAC, so I can see why bluebayou would find it odd.

I laughed when I saw it.

William & Mary is the premier public LAC. The rest are a distant distant second.

doctorb-
I know what you mean about William and Mary. W&M feels like an LAC and they are the premier public LAC-like school. But, they are officially classified as a Research University by the Carnegie organization. So, they didn’t make it into my list based on that technicality.

None of the service academies or tech schools should be on this list, as they are “LAC-like” only in the sense of having a small enrollment.

This list would be a lot more useful if it were reduced to its “core” of truly solid public LACs, such as New College, Minn-Morris, TCNJ, Geneseo, UNC Asheville, Murray State, Mary Washington, etc., which are all good schools at excellent values. Eliminate the two categories mentioned above and chop off about the bottom half of the list, then we’re cooking.
