Public Policy

I wanted to major in public policy, but I noticed Maryland only has a MPP degree available.
Then I was looking further into the website and saw that they offer a BA/MPP dual degree program.

Would I get a BA in Public Policy and an MPP? Or is the BA in something else?
What major would I then put on my application as an undergraduate student?

[BA/MPP Program | Public Policy, University of Maryland](http://www.publicpolicy.umd.edu/degree-programs/master-of-public-policy/joint-degree-programs/bampp)

^for an outline of the requirements for admission, which include a college GPA and HS SAT cutoff as well as “demonstrated interest in policy issues” (most likely through involvement in one of the many clubs on campus, such as MaryPIRG, Maryland Dems, etc.). You generally apply for the program at the end of your sophomore year and must plan to pursue a major in Afro-American Studies, Anthropology, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography, Government & Politics, Psychology, or Sociology.

I am a little familiar with this joint degree program. I believe you are free to list your desired major as your undergraduate major. You also don’t have to decide to join the program right away. For instance, I transferred at the junior level and even then could apply for the joint degree program. They even send letters to students who are doing very well at the university to apply. I myself did not choose to participate - among other reasons, because it is frowned upon if you get both undergrad and masters from the same institution.
