I am looking for a public school with a really good art program. I have looked at several art schools and i have found that they are too one sided for my taste. I am also interested in private schools with good art programs as well, but i want a school bigger than 2 or 3 thousand students.

i would also love a jewish population at school.

What area of art do you want to study in particular? Not all art schools are good in all areas. Here are the complete USNWR rankings by specialty. You should click around.

im looking for fine arts and design. I want to be able to take classes like foreign relations and religion, so thats the appeal for a public school.

i dont have the best grades and test scores.
i have a 3.5 and act score 26, sat 1700. im planning on retaking them but for now theyre on the low side, so i think ucla is kind of out of the picture.

Suny Purchase, Suny New Paltz, Syracuse, Bard (NY/Sat optional), Ithaca (NY), Alfred (NY), Temple (Philly), Ohio U (very pretty/college town atmosphere), VCU and Arizona State. Best of luck!

SUNY Purchase, New Paltz and Fredonia (although Fredonia is more theatre than visual arts).

Syracuse, Bard, Ithaca, and Temple are not publics. Alfred State College for Ceramics is but its only one part of Alfred (I think the rest is private).

Your stats seem (at the very least and as far as I know so don’t quote me) competitive for New Paltz and Fredonia, not sure about Purchase. Check out their websites for more info.

Edit: A lot of the SUNYs have a Hillel at the very least so there will be a small Jewish population at the minimum.

Also consider a CUNY for art. FIT and City College might work. Also Queens College.

Edit again: Sorry Poi, I didn’t realize she also asked for privates too.

SUNY NEW PALTZ! My son is an art student there and he loves it. Great school in a great location with a jewish population. Any questions feel free to ask.

It’s probably because of our name, but it’s very irritating when I have to read over and over again people saying we (Temple) are not public. We’re not a pure state school; we’re a state-related university, but for all intents and purposes, we’re a state school. If we were a private university, we’d be the second largest behind NYU, with 37K students.

thanks guys for the suggestions. do you guys know anything about binghamton and brandeis? art program wise and chances of getting in? im very interested in them, but i think theyre somewhat of a reach.

also what is the life like at binghamton and brandeis? and the rest of these schools you guys have suggested. lots of sororites and frats? because im looking for a more diverse friendly artsy feel if possible. sorry for all the questions!!
