<p>I was talking with a few friends lately, both from private and public schools, and we’ve all applied to Amherst. We were having a discussion about whether Amherst prefers public over private school applicants, as several of us had heard that Amherst favors the public school kids. Anyone else know anything about this?</p>
<p>For the class of 08, 64% of the kids accepted were from public schools, while 65% of the kids that applied were from public schools. 59% of kids who enrolled were from public schools; public school kids are a majority, and I don’t know if they perform better or worse than private school kids. private school kids on average might perform a bit better, but neither group seems to be “favored”.</p>
