I will soon be applying to graduate school, and I have published two articles in peer-reviewed journals. The thing is, though, that they are in fields completely unrelated to what I want to study at graduate school. I think that the publications show my ability to do research and such, but I’m concerned that they might also suggest to people reading my application that I’m not sufficiently interested in the field that I want to study. Any thoughts on how to discuss my publications effectively?

I have a similar problem. I have two in press that are in the field of Cell Biology/Biochemistry and one that is a mix of Analytical Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry. However, I’m applying to programs for catalysis and/or functional materials. I would assume that any scientific publication, regardless of the field, would look good.
