hello - DS just got accepted into Purdue Aviation for the major of Aviation Management and the Honors college. However, his first choice was Pro Flight. He is trying to figure out if he can still get the pro flight major as he admits into Purdue. Though his first choice was purdue, he doesnt want to go three if he wouldnt get pro-flight major. Anyone has experience in this?
He also got into pro-flight at Embry Riddle and North Dakota with some good scholarship.
Congrats on the two admissions with scholarship - because the major is quite costly (paying for flight hours). I think if you want to be a pilot, you go for the real thing - but that’s me (not you).
You might ask the program - but on their FAQs it says - Can I transfer/CODO into the Professional Flight Technology major?
CODO transfers are determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the number of students already admitted. Students may also have other majors while still training at Purdue Aviation LLC, which is a fixed-base operations center on the field separate from the University.
Flight is one of the toughest majors to transfer into and is historically a closed major. I think your child is safer going where they’ve been admitted to the major they really want.
What @momofboiler1 says - by real thing, I should have said - the assured thing.
If you want to be a pilot, go where you are assured to have the opportunity.
My son considered this major for a while and every time I flew, I asked pilots - if they were approachable upon the exit - where they went. Or if I was on a hotel shuttle with them. It’s your schools plus Florida Tech, Ok State, LeTourneau, Ohio U, Ohio State, etc. - like everywhere.
Always pick (in my opinion) major over school.
You might look at UND and the weather - when he was looking at schools, he was told they had a lot of downtime due to weather. Not saying it’s true but you might ask about it.
