Purdue, Penn State (University Park), or UMichigan

I was accepted into these three schools for Computer Science and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to choose between these schools with factors other than ranking.

I know that Purdue and Michigan have a higher ranked program than Penn State but PSU’s overwhelming alumni network and relative closeness to DC and NYC is a huge plus for finding a job in the computer science field.

Without considering money issues (out of state so tuitions are all relatively high)

Even though all of them are out of state, the cost of attending University of Michigan will be significantly higher than other two since the tuition alone costs 40k there. UMich is the best out of the three, no doubt about it but you have to factor in your financial situation.

If money is no issue then University of Michigan should be the obvious choice. It is very well rounded University. A lot of school spirit, #1 public for almost every major Business, Engineering, communication, sciences, arts etc. You must have seen the thread called “Is Michigan weak in anyway ?”. A lot of top companies like qualcomm, apple and others hire there so getting a job will be very easy. It also has a big alumni network.

If you wanted to choose only based on the school I would agree with XtremePower. UMich all the way! If I got into UMich (Ann Arbor right?) then I would go right away no questions asked. If it’s based on money…Penn State would be the best choice because I know OOS is total out the door 40k compared to UMich which would be around 52k.

Both have large Alumni networks, and there is a large base in NY. Honestly past the program “rankings” you’ll probably get more or less the same experience at both UM and PSU in sports and the college town, school spirit, etc.

It seems like Michigan is well above the other two schools, what if I were to compare Purdue and Penn State without Michigan?

I’m not saying that Michigan’s not a choice anymore, but I’d like a comparison of the other two schools since Michigan is a few steps above those other two schools
