Purse perfection

intparent, nook-ability is a essential for me too. The purse has to have a section I can dedicate to my nook and soft things that won’t scratch it, like Kleenex.

I don’t get one-section purses, even with side pockets. The few times I’ve tried one, I spend so much time groping around for stuff on the bottom. My ideal bag has three sections, one for nook and Kleenex, one for wallet and checkbook, one for HABA and pens.

I just bought a nice nylon paisley lesportsac for $30 at a silent auction. It is featherweight and I believe it will fit my ipad mini. It has a nice number of outside pockets, 4 zippers and a separate matching pouch.

All this talk of purses has me wondering who uses the word “pocketbook” anymore. Guess its a NE thing. The original Coach style bags have never been topped, IMO, though I’m very fond of my Longchamps tote. I throw everything into it, including a Baggallini. Love that it’s waterproof and have given a couple as gifts to D and DIL. I don’t “get” most of the styling of modern day bags, they look very S&M to me, and I cannot understand why anyone would go through the day hauling all that excess (heavy) hardware around. To each her own.

Have no tolerance for knockoff bags. Not only is it stealing IP, but that’s how organized crime launders money. I picture the worst - someone else’s child dead of an overdose and I’m carrying an inferior quality hand bag as part of the link. It’s hard enough to ensure that legitimate goods are manufactured in humane factories. No protections for the workers producing counterfeit goods.

I am happily wearing my Burberry bag after 3 years. The leather is pebbled, strap wide with lots of ways to adjust, 2 open interior pockets, 1 large zip, and a sturdy exterior zip. When the zipper broke, the store fixed for free. It helps that I got it on sale (1/3 the price).

I also have severzl Coach bags and tote (use daily for work, over 12 years, bought for $50). The outlet store is in Key West, where I use to visit often. sigh…

I agree with your distaste with stealing IP, but wonder how much better the working conditions are for the factory workers producing “legitimate” designer products.

I’m another person that found that my old favorite big purses were just too darn heavy. I bought a baggallini bag before a summer trip and now I can’t go back to anything else. I got one similar to this one - [Amazon.com: Baggallini Big Zipper Bag, Black Cheetah, One Size: Clothing](http://www.amazon.com/Baggallini-Zipper-Black-Cheetah-Size/dp/B00D6EHA7S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376998298&sr=8-2&keywords=bagalinni+bags)

My requirements were similar to abaskets… cross body, pocket for cell phone, zippers that closed. In addition, I want an outside closeable pocket for keys and large enough for a bottle of water. The bonus outside pockets that fit two re-useable bags are perfect too. I’ll never go back to a non- cross body purse, even though they don’t look as nice, they are just so much more practical. I LOVE the lightweight feel of my baggallini too.

I bought this off eBay and use it in my Longchamps. It makes up for the fact that the bag itself lacks pockets.

While many of you probably know this (and though clearly many of you have purse tastes WAY beyond what I’m willing/interested in in spending on a purse!) TJMaxx often has Baggillini purses in various sizes with prices ranging from $20-$35. Everyone should have one in their purse collection - great for traveling.

I have prided myself on staying out of the last decade’s purse frenzy. I still call them pocketbooks and I am still shocked when i go into a store and can’t find one for under 100 dollars. The ones I pick up are usually 3-4 times that and I drop them like a hot potato.

I have two pocketbooks. One in brown tones ( for when I wear brown shades) and one black (for when I wear black shades). Lol. Couldn’t tell you what brand they are.

I just pre-purchased a Michael Kors bag for my god child as a graduation gift. More like a messenger bag. It’s big and red and pretty. I paid 170 for it after two discounts. I think it was 350 full price. The sales person acted like I was getting it for free. Apparently I didn’t show the customary respect and exultation when I had them set it aside for me to be picked up on the magic day. Or maybe she saw my pocketbook and pegged me for what I am! :)

Anyway, my own two Ds LOVED the picture of this purse so I hope my God child likes it.

After many years of buying mostly hobo-style, zippered, fairly large, single shoulder strap leather purses, I discovered Vera Bradley, inspired to eschew leather once the rest of my family went vegan. What I love is that they are light and washable, and come in color combinations that match or complement whatever I’m wearing. I’ve even given up on the single strap requirement, since the two styles I like most have two. They also have zippered compartments inside, but I always wind up just throwing my cell phone in, hence having a hard time finding it before the ringing stops anyway.

Some years ago I went through a phase where I really wanted a Vera Bradley purse, but when it came down to it I realized I live in the Pacific Northwest and the thing would probably be soaked through all the time.

I do have a couple Vera bags. Courtesy of the Vera B Warehouse sale. I love color and the patterns fit that bill. Yep, you can wash many of them and I’ve had good luck with them coming up perfect afterwards. Great for a summer purse and oodles of styles available. I’m currently using a Vera attache for work that I love - looks great and has excellent storage for what I need.

Except for my one black and one white dress evening bags, ALL of my purses can hold my iPad. But really…that does not make them very big.

VH, that organizer you got is very similar to the one I have. It gives the pocketless purse…pockets!

I have no real high end purses. But I have nice ones. My real favorite is a pale pink Brighton purse that I got at a consignment store for $50. It is gorgeous leather, three separate inside areas, plenty of pockets, and not too big or heavy.

I have several Baggalinis and I like them for traveling…they can easily hold a ton. I have a Baggalini tote bag that I use as my carry on purse when I travel. It looks like a long champs on the outside…but with pockets…both on the outside and inside. Very handy for trips!

I have several Vera bags, including a couple of her totes. They are just fun!

^With the exception of my evening bag all of my purses must be able to hold my ipad. My brother is a photo editor for a lifestyle and fashion magazine, he says that nothing has changed purse design more that the ipad and its size requirements.
I think Vera bags are an East Coast thing…I never knew what one was until I came on CC!

I still find myself using that word occasionally! I grew up (in the NE) using “pocketbook” to describe a handbag and “purse” to describe the littler bag where a woman put her money and credit cards – that was a purse for a woman but a wallet for a man.

As for Vera Bradley - that’s big around here (Midwest) but it’s more of a teen / young woman thing.

Vera Bradley is big here in the South, too, and a lot of the sororities have their “own” prints. I have a few Vera pieces. When I’m in the stores I like the Vera prints, but when I get them home sometimes I feel they are sort of “old ladyish”. This was confirmed when my sister’s 92 year old mother in law was excited that she and I had the same bag! I still like the stuff, and the one I use the most is a very small Vera bag that I use for sporting events or concerts when I don’t want to carry the Mother Ship!

One would hope Vera is big in the Midwest! They are based in Indiana, aren’t they?

My problem with all of my purses…I really should change use more often…but it’s just a PITA.

My favorite purses are very old bags. I enjoy wearing one that belonged to my maternal grandmother (black leather), one that belonged to my paternal grandmother (white beaded with a small satin change purse inside) and another that belonged to my husband’s grandmother (black reptile skin). I don’t get to wear them often, as they are more appropriately worn as evening bags or for more formal events.

I have a feeling they may not be as attractive as they are sentimental to me. My neighbor dressed as Queen ELizabeth for Halloween and asked if she could borrow one of my black bags to complete her dowdy costume :/).

Yep, Vera is in Fort Wayne Indiana. Attending the warehouse sale is a vision to behold - all ages and sizes buying obscene amounts of bags!!! Football field sized area with tables stacked dozens high with Vera galore. Prices vary but there are always at least a few steals - this year one of them was the attache - originally $88 on sale for $24.99.

My D just bought a Dooney bag that I absolutely love. It’s the perfect taking to work bag – it’s nylon with lots of pockets and very padded straps. I’m not usually a bag person but I truly covet that bag.
