Our school district’s superintendent hired a director of learning and teaching. She is head strong and adopt a equality education model. She started to eliminate honor courses in middle school and will carry this policy over to HS. The administrator will NOT give assessment/placement test, and would NOT allow differentiation, or acceleration. Regardless of students’ academic interests, capabilities, and readiness in any course, They blindly randomly place student into classes and ask teachers to accommodate everyone. There are large disparities in student’s interests and capabilities and readiness in each course. Teachers don’t know where to focus their attention to. There are complaints from parents of both academic advanced students and academic challenged students. These is a good size school, with about 250 students in each grade. School doesn’t need additional resources to differentiate. I want to ask parents out there with public school children. How is academic excellence and equality is implemented in their school district?

As a student I would say that this person know nothing about what they are doing. EVERY student is not the same.

In my school district they allow students academically challenged to stay in lower level classes. While those who want advanced classes are allowed to have that option as well. I would reccomend either to find some way to rectify this rule, or to possibly transfer to a new charter/private school.
