Put down that chocolate bunny!

I just had my first Cadbury egg of the season and it was fabulous. I’ll do one a day until my 4-pack is gone. It was my Easter present from my daughter.

I’ve thought of giving up sugar for Lent, for a month, for a week. Honestly, I don’t think I’d last a day!

No one does the Easter basket full of fruits and veggies?

My family has been sick over Easter so no one ate any candy or the dinner of prime rib. Thinking of going to CVS when I feel better and getting more easter candy. Think we need an Easter redo next weekend!

“No one does the Easter basket full of fruits and veggies?”

Sure. OANGE lifesavers, candy CORN, STRAWBERRY crème filled eggs, LEMON colored peeps. Sitting on plenty of artificial basket filling grass (I’m categorizing grass as a vegetable).

Is that what you mean?

Ok, you guys can have the last laugh.
I bought H some overly sweet pastry from Larsens bakery. Smorkage, what ever that is, ( apparently Danish butter cake).
I was not going to eat* any /i of it, but I am working on my taxes on my iPad- using the tax apps, not the browser, but today I can’t even access the screen. The screen has been wonky, but I planned to take it in AFTER I finished the taxes- NOT NOW!

So out of stress, I ate three of the round parts. it was pretty sweet, but I had some good Scandinavian coffee to wash it down.
This is why you do things when you CAN, rather than procrastinate.
Because if you are me- something * always* happens.
To be fair last week, was not any better, and I also am dealing with drs and health stuff too, but argh.

You get to eat anything you want while doing your taxes. It helps to relieve the suffering. Didn’t you know that was in the tax code? Whatever you want!!

Just got back from the store and bought some drastically discounted easter candy. We had an empty nest so didn’t do baskets this year. I’m blaming my purchases on this thread!

I appreciate that sugar is a real problem in our society and we should all do better in limiting it in our diets. Frankly, I’m in a little bit of a backlash right now and frustrated about all the things I am told that I can’t eat or drink! I do many good things for my body as far as running/exercise and good nutrition, but I am currently sick of the “can’t have sugar, can’t have artificial sweeteners, can’t have diet colas, can’t have processed foods” every time I look at any publication.

I need to clean up my diet, but it isn’t happening today.

@busdriver11, I wish I’d known that section of the tax code last week! After seeing how much more we have to pay, I wanted nothing but dark chocolate and a strong drink for supper.

And you didn’t do it, Silpat? What self control! I think you deserve it this week, just for not giving in last week. Paying higher taxes certainly entitles you to a little bit of dark chocolate and a drink. Actually, as long as it’s dark and not too much to drink, isn’t that health food now?

That doesn’t really bother me so much, as that info has been out there for so long, even I know when I’m eating bad stuff.

However, what drives me nuts is when they start saying how toxic all the stuff I consider “good” to be. Like beware of farm raised salmon, this or that sort of fish, tap water could carry toxins. I think I even read something about kale and broccoli lately. There’s something wrong with everything, so I guess we should just eat whatever we want!

Personally, I think all the info and heightened awareness is a good thing. I have a huge sweet tooth, and within the last year I have limited my added sugar to the new limit recommended by the WHO. Also, pretty much no processed foods. Never any soda or artificial sweeteners. It did awesome things for my health! I think the heightened awareness is great!

Awareness is great… The problem is that the media and blogosphere pick up the issue and make so much noise about it that the voices of reason drown in it. An Easter egg or an occasional glass of diet soda is not going to kill me. Overindulgence might do me in if I don’t control myself.

Personally, I don’t agree about diet soda. I think it’s bad enough that even occasionally it’s not OK. That’s just my personal view.

You’ll change your mind about the absolutes, I suspect, as you gain some years. I feel that way about smoking, but not too much else.

You can always try diet soda with Stevia, that is no calorie, no artificial, no bad anything. Not all diet soda is terrible for you. Unless they figure out something that is wrong with Stevia, from a study done by aspartame manufactures.

The only legal non-prescription substance that is NOT ok even occasionally is nicotine. I do not eat any sugar substitutes, but I don’t condemn anyone who has an occasional glass of diet soda.

All the nonnutritive sweeteners - stevia, saccharine, aspartame, sucralose - I don’t think they’re fooling anyone’s pancreas. Or helping us get a hold of sweetness addiction. So, pass the good stuff!

Woah. I am not passing judgement on people who choose soda. That’s why I said personally. But for me, no, I am unlikely to change my mind as I gain years. In fact, the closer I have gotten to 30, the less soda I drink. I went from almost every day in college to every few days in my early and mid 20’s to none at all in my late 20’s. I am happy with my decision and not adding it back into my life. And I have never drank diet soda, even when I drank soda. I don’t think nicotine is the only thing that shouldn’t be touched. Again, that’s a personal decision, not something I encourage anyone else to do. But I am pretty firm in my choice and don’t even miss it any more, as it has been years.
