Q about Varsity Band

Hello,
I will be a UCLA student this year!
I am interested in UCLA Marching Band and Varsity Band and have questions about Varsity Band.

Is Varsity Band selective?

The brochure, which I received today by a mail, describes “This group plays at all home men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as selected away games. The Varsity Band also plays at volleyball, waterpolo and soccer matches, tennis tournaments, swim meets, student and alumni rallies and other special events. The Varsity Band travels to NCAA Regionals and Finals Tournaments with the men’s and women’s basketball teams and occasionally to tournament appearances in other sports as well”.
There are so many sports events that Varsity Band attends and also there are away games.

Are there minimum games a Varsity Band player have to play or does s/he must attend all of those activities?

If there is any Varsity Band player, how many units and number of classes did you take past Varsity Band season?

Join the marching band first. Once you are in the marching band, you are eligible for the Varsity Band.

Since the Varsity Band is smaller, it is more selective, but this is done by a combination of class seniority and participation. Newest members play at the lesser known sports, such as water polo, etc. After they gain seniority, they work they way up to play at Basketball games.

I don’t know if there is a minimum number of games at which a newer member must play, it might depend on what instrument you play, and how many upperclassmen are ahead of you in seniority.

All marching band members are asked to play at the bonfire pep rally before the U$C game, but participation is voluntary.

Good luck to you on joining the Varsity Band! :)

Thank you very much for your advice.
I am practicing my piece for audition.
Thank you again.

Good luck on your audition, and break a leg! :D
