My D applied to UGA RD, and on status check page under test scores it lists her ACT as composite, english, math and writing (essay only) score. There is no reading or science. Is this normal?

Yes mam. I applied and my status page looks just like that. The reason for this is UGA only looks at the Math and English components of the ACT. They do not look at the composite, but it is still on the status page.

I know you can convert composite scores to SAT equivalents, but is there a formula to convert just those two sections?

No. But if you ask the admissions counselors for information regarding last year’s class profile (and this may be online too) they will tell you median scores for the ACT english and math sections.

Wow, weird policy, but considering those were my two best, I’ll take it.

I just realized that the average of those 2 section’s for DD is 33, same as her composite, so it’s okay.

why dont they look at reading? it’s essentially the same thing as SAT critical reading

Which would be considered a better score to send to schools which only look at the Math, English, and Writing portions of the ACT: SAT (1290/1600 or 2000/2400) or ACT (29 on English, 30 on Math, “10” on the essay)? Thanks!

I have no idea how they figure it, but if a 20 and a 30 is 29.5 average, it looks like ACT to SAT conversion tables would have it about a 1320? Not sure but that’s what it seems, but who really knows. Southmom, is SAT essay a “10” also? I think I will call Monday morning to ask about this just to satisfy my curiosity.

GA2012MOM: The SAT essay was an “11”. If you get an answer from UGA on Monday, could you please post what they tell you? I will check the site. Thanks!

Okay what do you all think about this?
D already applied EA, but will probably be deferred. She took the ACT twice about four months apart. On the first take her scores were okay but her essay was a 10. On the second take, her scores were much better but her essay was a 7. She used the second scores only on EA, do you think she should also have (or still) send in the first test since her essay was so much better?

No, because UGA is not interested in essays this year. If the scores are good she might not be deferred. You just never know. I wonder if for EA they look at race/ethnicity for the diversity mix, or if they look just at the numbers, like they say.

Do you know how Virginia Tech handles their ACT scores? Do they look at only the English, Math, and essay sections or they consider the composite score? Thanks!
