Qualifying year and graduate admission

hey guys
So the first year in my uni – which is uni nottingham has a ‘qualifying year’ which basically means that the first year doesn’t come into the final grade. I passed my qualifying year and ever since my grades have skyrocketed (on exchange in america now). I want to apply to some of the best graduate schools and I believe that i can graduate with a first class degree. The only thing that would make me less of a competitive candidate is my overall average in the first year (it took me some time to adapt) – which is a lower second.
I was wondering if you had any idea if graduate schools would overlook this – especially because it doesn’t account for my final grade, and because my passion in the subject and my own development in the course has made me a more suitable candidate than I would have been back then…

oh by the way – im looking into applying in either human geography or development studies…

Since your first year won’t count for your degree and you’ll be applying with your U Nottingham degree, grad schools will only see what UNottingham counts toward your degree. Your American courses will be added to the mix, of course, and you’ll need to take the GRE.

Thank you for your reply! this is a relief!
