Quality education with horrible grades

First two years of community college in Hawaii

A - 1
B - 0
C - 4
D - 2
F - 12
W - 2
need less to say my GPA was horrendous

Third year of community college in Oregon

A - 9
B - 1
C - 1
D - 0
F - 0
W - 1
P - 1
NP - 2

GPA: 3.6

Is my two years of CC a record for most F’s in a school career?

I left Hawaii to go to Lane CC a small community college that acts as a feeder school into the University of Oregon. I improved significantly and held a 4.12 GPA until two NP’s, 1 B, and a C lowered my GPA.
I have applied to the University of Oregon twice since I moved and have been denied admissions based on my horrible cumulative GPA of 1.something. I am awaiting a decision on my third attempt.

But if I don’t get in again, I have decided to just pursue my Associates degree which is a six or so classes away.

I’m hoping that I will finish with a high enough GPA to graduate with a 3.8 or higher, i have also decided to boost my resume a bit by joining “Phi Theta Kappa” which is a honer society for two year college students.

My ultimate albeit unrealistic goal at the point of obtaining my AA is gaining admissions into a big time school on the west coast. My preference in order with no regards to actually probability of admissions is:

1)UC, Berkeley
2) USC
3) UCLA
4) University of Washington, Seattle

I am looking to major in Journalism but will settle for some other English related field.

With my horrible record are these just pipe dreams? Is there anyway that i can muster enough good grades to obtain admissions into Berkeley or any other prestigious University?

Thanks.

Hey guys still looking for some answers to this thread! Thanks!

Wow, 12 F’s. To be honest UC Berkeley and UCLA are out of your league becuase not only are you an out of state student but your GPA is not that good. Most likely USC too because they don’t allow academic renewal. But maybe UW will accept you if continue to do well.

Wow, that is a really incredible turn around. I hope that colleges will be willing to overlook your old mistakes and focus on your more recent record, but if I were you I wouldn’t take that for granted.

Your Oregon GPA is a 3.73 by my calculations, which is respectable but probably won’t stand out at the schools you listed. If they do focus on your work at Oregon and your SAT/ACT scores are solid, I’d say that you’ll probably get into one of those schools.

I would advise you to contact the admissions offices at these schools, explain your unique situation to them, and ask how much they’ll hold the old experience against you. When you send in applications, you should include an addendum explaining your improved performance and the conditions which caused you to struggle before.

I’d also apply to less competitive schools in the UC system just to be safe.

Try Philippines, here we will accept you regardless of your grades (as long as you help yourself) there is no problem…

Besides the fact that it’s a lot cheaper~ (take only the PAASCU Schools)

Talk with the transfer counselors at Lane, and find out which colleges and universities have articulation agreement guaranteeing admission to Lane graduates who hold a full A.A./A.S. Often completing the A.A. will make all the difference in transfer admissions.

Wishing you all the best!
