Quality of English and IA Programs at these schools

I posted this in the college search & selection sub-forum, but no one has responded yet, so I thought posting here and being a bit more specific would be a better idea.

How good are the English and International Affairs departments at the following schools?

NYU
Carnegie Mellon
Penn State
Tufts
Fordham
UVA
UC Berkeley
UCLA
GW
BU
Georgetown
American

I know that Georgetown is probably the best for IA and that NYU has an honors IA program. I also know that Carnegie Mellon has a creative writing program,-- which I think says something because only so many colleges offer majors in creative writing --but what about English in itself? Also, if any of these schools have solid reputations in philosophy and/or psychology, that would help (I know NYU certainly does for phi.) Pretty much any details would be great.

If you’re looking a TOP international studies program an equally TOP English program, you’re missing out on Johns Hopkins. And I would say Tufts, already on your list, too. Georgetown is good for intl studies and nursing but its college never impressed me (personal opinion).

IN general, the best undergrad intl studies programs are said to be at Tufts, Gtown, and JHU in no particular order.

Of the programs that you listed, Berkeley, UVA, and NYU have the strongest English departments. Penn State, UCLA, Tufts, and BU also have solid programs. None of those programs is bad, but the three I listed first are TOP programs.
