Quality of Instructors, Math, Science Engineering

Help…our son is considering UCD for mechanical engineering. What is the quality of instructors in math, science and engineering especially for lower division classes? another one of our children attends CSUS and is majoring in computer science. He has had many bad experiences with preofessors who are poor teacher and/or who speak such heavily accented English that he cannot understand them. This is particulary problematic in math and science classes. We are trying to get a feel for UCD.

My son is a freshman in cvil engr. According to him, he has not had any issues (calc and engr classes), but is only just now finishing up his first quarter. FYI – We went to the “the back to school” homecoming program set up for parents and alumni. We had very good presentations by the profs on some great subjects.

I know overall he is very pleased with the UCD experience.

Thanks very much. This is very good information. We know that every school has its issues and all have some professors who are problematic. We’re just trying to get an overall feel for the quality of instruction to avoid the problems our older son has had wherein most of the professors in the math and science arena are not great and have accents so thick that they literally cannot be understood. Thanks again.
