In general, how bright and driven are the students at UCLA? I realized that ~70% of the enrolling freshmen are from California; while Cal doe have a very large population, there are many choice the top students can choose from. Are most of the best graduating seniors joining higher ranked schools (USNews), leaving few top 10% students to enrol at UCLA? And anyone has stats on what percentage of freshmen are in top 10% of graduating class?

There are definitely some very bright students and some that may leave you asking “How the hell did he/she get in?”
Its a public school so expect anything. There are people who were accepted to Stanford/Ivies but couldn’t afford it and many others who are smart enough to go there just lacked the “well-roundedness.”

At our Southern California public school, for the most part, only the top 1 or 2% of the class is admitted to UCLA, and they often attend.
