Quarry vs. Prey

A vocabulary question from the Mastering the SAT book:

The con man’s ________ is usually a person who is greedy, believes he can beat the system, and can’t resist the swindler’s trap.

c) prey
e) quarry

The correct answer was c) but doesn’t quarry have a secondary definition that is “prey”? Can someone please clarify about the definition?

Can someone also clarify between the difference of “sardonic” and “sarcastic”?
