I’ve finally talked my husband into a weekend in Quebec city, Canada in late August after we drop our youngest off at his college in Burlington, VT. I did a day trip there last summer with my son after we visited that college and am eager to return with my husband. Our oldest son may or may not be accompanying us so I don’t want to plan anything resembling a second honeymoon.

Looking for hotel, fun things to do and/or places to avoid. We both like historical stuff and unique stores like in the Old town section. And we would get more enjoyment getting a good deal then spending top dollar. Not that we want Super 8 lodging, but we would be willing to do Priceline for a four star hotel, or stay in a B & B, if you get the difference.

I have traveled there a few times on business. I always stay at the Saint-Sulpice. Awesome hotel right in the heart of Old Quebec. I have never had much extra time to do much more than wander the streets and eat but I really love that area.

You must take in the Plains of Abraham, (by researching my family I found out the farm land was once owned by my ancester). If you can go a for ride of about 20 minutes or so and see Isle D orleans, (very pretty), do some whale watching. Definetly stay in downtown old Quebec, walk around and really enjoy the atmosphere, artisan are all over the place, french culture abounds, food is generally phenominal and the people are very friendly. most of all relax and enjoy yourselves.

There was a great discussion thread last June about [thread=936976]Quebec and the Gaspe Peninsula[/thread]. I found the suggestions very helpful & posted a long trip report with our own recommendations after we returned from Quebec in July.

We stayed at the [Port Royal Hotel](Hotel Port Royal - View our Hotel in Quebec City Canada) in the Old Port area of the Lower City. It was a wonderful location & the hotel was great. We spent the first few days walking everywhere, up and down the hills between Upper and Lower City until we discovered the cute little Ecolobus (fare=$1), which connects the Old Port (ferry terminal) and Upper City.

Thanks for the great ideas! I thought about VRBO but we’re really just looking for a weekend place. No harm checking it out though. The hotel prices are depressingly city hotel prices so I’m trying to wade through B&B reviews to find one as an alternative.

I was one of the ones involved in last year’s thread. We had to cancel our plans but we are talking about going this summer- but a shorter trip than we had plan. Anyhow, last year we had plan to stay at the b & b Hotel Cap Diamant. So you might check it out. Chateau de Pierre is another one, it doesn’t look as nice but it is cheaper. Go to tripadvisor and go to the Quebec City forums. Great advise there. Come back and let us know how your trip went and I will do the same (if I ever get there).

Onward, Tripadvisor is my normal go-to place for planning trips, but I am looking for one that has sleeping for three people in a room and that’s not easy to filter for at B & B’s. Going back to 12rmh’s thread now. Hope you can get to Quebec too!
