Queen Bed That is Easy to Move

My daughter needs to get a bed.

There is a good chance that she will be subletting / otherwise need to move in the not too distant future.

So it would be good if she could find something that is relatively portable.

She also wants a headboard.

IKEA wouldn’t be able to deliver for 1 - 2 weeks, so not sure that is an option if she needs something this weekend.

Our family has always slept on beds with slats and foam mattresses.

Your title is an oxymoron. There has never been a queen bed in the history of the universe that is easy to move.

Other CC-ers, feel free to prove me wrong. IMHO, moving a mattress is one of the hardest things to do.

We ordered a full size mattress on Amazon - came rolled up in a bag - working well. But in the future we’ll have the same ol’ hard to move the thing problem. Once it was unrolled it’s a regular mattress.

How about a futon bed?

This may/may not fit her criteria. How about a really high quality queen aerobed???
I’ve know some people who have been very happy with the quality and comfort of some of them.

With complete joy, we can move the queen mattress that we got for D2’s room after she moved to college. Why? It has the brilliant, and never-before-seen addition of thick, securely attached straps that are sewn in along the long side and around the corner a bit. Why wasn’t this done for every mattress???

We bought it at Costco. It’s some kind of Sealy or Serta pillow-top but since I removed the little tag, I’m not sure which model it is.

Blow up mattresses are fairly comfortable these days–doesn’t get easier than that.

A sleep number is pretty darned easy to take apart and move.

She could always just do what a lot of my friends do and just get a thick piece of foam and throw it on the floor. :)

I have to say I would go with the airbed.
Takes sheets & is very comfortable.
Plus you can take it car camping!

Ugh I hate air beds. You can wrestle a foam mattress into a smaller roll. I can’t tell you whether these are better or worse quality than Ikea, but Sears does sell bedframes and slats. [Slat Roll Mattress Support from Sears.com](http://www.sears.com/search=slat%20roll%20mattress%20support?catalogId=12605&storeId=10153&levels=Furniture+%26+Mattresses_Mattresses&autoRedirect=true&viewItems=50&redirectType=CAT_REC_PRED&prop17=slat%20roll%20mattress%20support)

the air mattress abasket noted in #4 is very comfortable, takes deep sheets and has little headboard…if she’s moving soon, I’d opt for this

You could get a Sleep Comfort Bed. They totally deflate.

Or back to the 60’s…a waterbed. When empty, they roll right up.

I don’t think an air mattress will meet her need to nest in her first home. :(

We will need to further pursue the idea of wrestling a foam mattress into a smaller roll…

The aerobed from Costco is a great bed for the price. My oldest used that bed for two years. She bought it as a temporary solution but found it was very comfortable. She shared her bed with a 65 lb dog who also loved the bed.
She just this year purchased a real bed and box spring and bed frame. I told her that I hope that by the time she moves from this apartment she can afford movers.

SleepNumber beds may roll up into a small footprint, but good grief, are you really spending that on a kid bed?

ETA…I meant Sleep NUMBER…not Sleep COMFORT!

And yes. They are pricy, but the OP is looking for easy to move! Wonder if you could get one on eBay?

The Sleep Number Bed is a “real” bed, not an air mattress. It really does deflate and is easy to transport relatively speaking. you might want to check it out. Not cheap!

Whatever you do… don’t put the air mattress on a standard metal bed frame  My agent did that once while staging a house for sale and the thing immediately had air leaks. Had to run over to the house and ‘blow up’ the air mattress before any showings to sell the house.

We bought D an EZ bed from Frontgate her senior year. She used it for 3 solid years and moved everywhere. When I visited I could comfortably sleep on it with her. They are a normal height bed and fold up easily. She just needed to turn on the pump every few months for more support. Would buy again.

If you go for a traditional bed be sure you buy a split foundation. Many that are not split cannot get up stairways in apartment buildings.
