Questbridge College Prep Scholar 2016 Applicant Thread

@HailuMu, @wispanic, @Menduch ahhah, oooops, i meant 36K, NOT 36000K for income.

I am way too lazy to fill out the that template from my phone. But I got accepted.
MY PSAT score wasn’t all that impressive, I only got a 1090! No SAT or ACT information (yet.)
GPA is around 3.9. Ranked 11/200+ students.
No actual extracurricular experience, but I did have work experience as a cashier at Sears and I’m currently working as cashier at Kmart. Family’s income is probably around 29,000. I’m Hispanic and Female if that matters much. First generation college.
My essay was pretty personal and I talked a lot about my parents and how I love them very much but I aspire to be different from them and actually try to get somewhere with my life. I really don’t know how strong it was, haha. Talked about financial struggle in my family and how it held my parents back. I didn’t let anyone proofread it or anything, it was a spur of the moment thing.

Does anyone know if they already released if you got into a summer program? particularly the stem ones please. I got rejected from all the summer programs I applied to so I’m praying Questbridge is still sending out results for summer programs.

@Menduch Sorry for the late reply! I got a nomination to attend a national college admissions conference, personalized essay coaching, and a nomination for an all-expense paid campus visits to Questbridge partner colleges

Can someone please answer @athenanv13’s question? I was wondering the same thing. Sorry, I getting desperate since I’m in the same situation and I don’t know what to do this summer.

I got a call and an email 2 days ago saying I was nominated for the Princeton journalism program. It’s not STEM, but it seems they’re still nominating people.

@hopefulbunch Thank you! I have hope now! I was so sad this morning because I got rejected from all my summer programs.

No problem! Good luck to you and everyone else waiting for summer program results :slight_smile:

Eyyyy! I got accepted :smiley: What happens next though? :open_mouth:

I really hope I get a call from a summer program soon, rejected from all I applied so :frowning:

I didn’t even apply to summer programs! :frowning: I really want to attend one this summer, so I guess I’m still holding on to a teensy bit of hope. Good luck to everyone as well! :slight_smile:

@hopefulbunch Congrats to you! So you just get nominated for a program? Then what, you apply or are you already accepted?

@ax5261
fb group for the NU conference https://www.facebook.com/groups/1130289553689258/
Yale conference https://www.facebook.com/groups/527307970780404/

it’s not letting me say fb, but that’s what the *** in the URL is

@Menduch

Once you’re nominated for a program, there is a separate process for getting accepted. That is how it worked for me when I was selected for the Notre Dame Summer Program – I had to write a short 300 word essay.

@Menduch thank you! And yeah, @wispanic is right. There’s a whole different process now. Hoping for the best :-S

@wispanic Eamon boyy answer my PM haha. I messaged you back already :smiley:
@hopefulbunch ooh so you get nominated but does it ensure acceptance? :o did both of you guys get accepted?

@Menduch it doesn’t ensure acceptance. Just a nomination!

Congrats to everyone! I got invited to the Northwestern conference, got essay coaching, and a nomination to summer college visits. Does anyone know how often someone actually gets a invitation for college visits?

Hi guys! I recently created my college confidential account and I became a prep scholar!! But I’m really scared about the finalist and national match applications!!! Also, I haven’t heard from the prep scholarship program for the summer programs. Do you know if the results came out yet?

I was the only QuestBridge acceptance for Penn’s Management and Technology Summer Institute, so I can vouch that that one has been decided already. One of my friends said 3 days ago that she applied for only programs later in the summer (I think Yale?) and that they will release acceptances in May, so there is definitely still hope! Definitely don’t be disappointed if you don’t get one though; I was truly shocked that I got one, I’ve heard that they’re very difficult.

What other Scholarships will you be applying for: I applied for Coolidge Scholarship (full ride anywhere for 4 years), and I got rejected but I was in the top 4% of 2300 applicants

General Comments: Apply for this scholarship and other QuestBridge scholarships! There’s a decent chance of you getting this one, and being a CPS greatly increases your chances of getting the College Match Scholarship. Also, your application is the only way that QB is able to judge not just your paper qualities, but your personality; spend a lot of time and effort on the essay and short answer, I think that’s why I got the summer program. Your essays need to have your voice, so don’t worry about using big words if you don’t do that in real life. My essay was very well written but not necessarily super high as far as vocab and grammar structure are concerned, but it oozes of my voice and is down-to-earth and optimistic. Can’t stress it enough; write good essays and short answers, and make your application all YOU!
