Questbridge College Prep Scholarship 2015 Applicant Thread

congrats to all!! @reinadelsur what is the date for the stanford admission conference? i live on the east coast and checked yale’s conference when applying for qb, but i recently decided on a summer program and will actually be in stanford for most of the summer. do you think it would be possible/polite to ask for a spot at the stanford conference instead?

@mangoking it’s on June 20

And guys, we have two threads for results, let’s try to unify them somehow lol

I got invited to the Stanford confrence, but I don’t think I’ll be able to go :-S

Accepted!!! Congrats to all

I just got home and saw the email. I got rejected :frowning:

Another question I have: are parents expected to be at the conference or can I go by myself?

and i guess since i was previously rejected to a program that i really set my heart on, i’ve gotten better at being numb.

Congratulations to those who got accepted! You guys are going to do great things in the future!

I don’t think your parent HAS to go with you to the conference, but you should call Questbridge to make sure! @anitomy

I got:

As a College Prep Scholar, we are pleased to award you:

• An invitation to a QuestBridge National College Admissions Conference
• Free, on-demand test prep from Kaplan
• A nomination for expense-paid college visits to QuestBridge partner colleges

I’m really happy. But I do wish I got the essay coaching… Congrats to everyone!

@blourring I got the same! I really wanted essay coaching as well because I feel like I need to strengthen that aspect of my application. Do you think it would be rude to contact them asking if for essay coaching?

Reeeaaaally wanted that essay coaching as well. Perhaps we didn’t receive it because they believed our essays were already pretty OK? @blourring @RunsForCookies

I GOT IN GUYS!! Wow. I’m shocked that I’m competitive for the national college match. This is such an honor, I was nominated for the a college visit, test prep, and essay coaching. Wow, congratulations to everyone that got in and even if you didn’t you’re still amazing! Don’t let one scholarship define you!

@reinadelsur Yeah I was thinking that too but I’d still like extra help to make my essay really stand out. How do you think the nomination for the college visit works?

Rejected

I got
• An invitation to a QuestBridge National College Admissions Conference (at Stanford)
• Free, on-demand test prep from Kaplan
• A nomination for expense-paid college visits to QuestBridge partner colleges

So wait,

is the national conference to stanford fully paid like all the travel expenses and hotel?

@marmoset I read from previous threads that you have to pay for your own transportation but you can apply for a grant. The grant request can be rejected, though.

(edit)
And also, it says:

“There is no cost for the conference programming, and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided on the day of the conference. However, students will need to pay for their own travel, overnight accommodation (if necessary), food, and other related expenses. As a non-profit organization, QuestBridge does not have the budgetary resources to sponsor travel for all students who receive invitations to the National College Admissions Conferences. Some College Prep Scholars may have received a travel grant as part of their awards.
We encourage you to fundraise on your own from sources such as local businesses, community organizations, and churches in order to cover travel expenses. Many students who have attended our organization’s events in past years have been successful in doing so. You may wish to review the fundraising guide on the Junior Statesmen Foundation’s website for more ideas. (Please note that QuestBridge is not affiliated with the Junior Statesmen Foundation.)”

So I’m guessing they no longer offer grants anymore unless stated on your results page.

"Congratulations!

As a College Prep Scholar, we are pleased to award you:

I’m so excited! I was in tutoring for my AP exam for APUSH with my APUSH teacher that wrote my recommendation letter when I saw this. I can’t believe it.

seems like most ppl are getting the triple package of essay/test prep, admin conference, and college visit nomination…another question, i know questbridge encourages students to put collegeprep scholar as an honor/award on resumes, but do most programs/teachers/colleges know about qb and its programs, or should we include little explanations of what exactly the award is?

@mangoking given their extensive list of partner colleges (which are all remarkable universities), I’d say College Prep Scholarship is a pretty well-known thing in terms of colleges knowing about it.

Any idea on when past scholars have gotten their Quest for Excellence awards? Specifically the one related to medicine?
