QuestBridge National College Match 2014-2015

nebhar97, <<i didn’t="" know="" one="" could="" actually="" game="" the="" system="">> you can’t. What I’m referring to are the kids who are trying to figure out if they can ‘claim first gen’ because they believe they can get an admissions boost, or ranking colleges that match the most number of students instead of colleges that would be great schools for them, or even adding EC’s this year, just strategizing ad nauseum. Your approach should be to take the process at face value, understand what holistic admissions are, choose the best schools for your academic and personal goals and present yourself in your applications thoroughly and positively and uniquely and as a great fit for your schools. Boom.
<i didn’t="" know="" one="" could="" actually="" game="" the="" system="">

Up until this year, Questies have been, for the most part, the antithesis of CC kids. One of the reasons that super selective colleges are so attracted to QB type applicants is their lack of a polished, curated, marketable profile. Many kids & adults on CC scoff at notions of authenticity or ingenuousness or grit or a genuine scholarly temperament or deep unaffected curiosity or so many of the other qualities that can exist (and push an application to the top of a pile) when a young person hasn’t been groomed for the college admissions process over multiple years. When automaton type students don’t get into an elite college ( and sometimes are shut out completely) they blame it on the ACT 34 that should have been a 35 (seriously you will find this here) OR they blame it on someone else who had a ‘hook’ they didn’t have. The reality is that QB kids mostly have had incredibly difficult/unusual therefore interesting lives that have pushed them to maturity/introspection/growth/thoughtfulness etc. which comes through in who they are and what they do ( and what they plan to do with their lives), and often overrides a lower number somewhere in their profile. Trust this. Iggy Azalea has a tattoo reading: “trust your struggle”. This should be the QB motto!

<<tell me="" more…="">> OK, research your colleges but don’t try to scheme about your admissions. Your life story, when you get that figured out, is all you need. Take the process on a in straightforward way and you can’t lose. Really.
One side note is that you have two pretty different kinds of colleges on your list so make sure you are really doing your due diligence and if possible get on those campuses to see where you feel at home! </tell>

With all that said :), I’ll try to find the list of how many QB students were matched last year by your 6 colleges ( and all the rest if you want the whole list). I have to dig it up; I’ll message you the list as soon as I find it. Good luck. And keep it real  seriously though.

Just printed out my Match Agreement Form…gonna get it signed tomorrow. Ranked Scripps College and Wesleyan University. It’s about time to start getting these ready, everyone! Looking forward to hearing what colleges you guys decided upon ranking. :)

For those of you who plan on ranking MIT, did you do the interview yet? Will it be too late to contact my interviewer on around the 10th?

On MyMIT it says that EA applicants (same dates for QB Match) have until the 20th, so the 10th should be fine.

Princeton 31. Columbia 22 Brown 10 Dartmouth 2 USC 12 Vassar 7. Last year only not averages!

@nynightowl Could you tell me where you found those numbers?

They are not published on the QB website or even officially anywhere – as far as I know. But you might be able to ask QB for an official count if it matters to you. I got them from last year’s poll which is not complete - missing about 30 out of 440 matches.
Each year the QB NCM applicants do a survey and create a list after everyone reports where they were matched and then compile a list. If you’re not in a FB group yet you can join this group for current applicants plus previous years’ Questies: <a href=“2014-2015 QuestBridge Family (College Prep + College Match) | Facebook”>https://www.facebook.com/groups/QuestieFamily/</a> and this group which is only for 2014/2015 Questies: <a href=“One Bae Happy Family | Facebook”>https://www.facebook.com/groups/565505303554377/</a></p>

EDIT: so I can’t post the FB group links I guess. Just search ‘2014-2015 Questbridge Family’ for the big group and ‘Class of 2015 Questbridge Senior Support Group’ for the 2014/2015 ONLY group.

OMG I want to know the results so bad

For some reason, my match agreement form won’t submit on my app. I keep uploading it but nothing shows up? Anyone else having trouble?

Maybe fax it? ^

yes you can fax it - from school if you need to - they are extending the deadline because of the school holiday.

Do you guys have any idea how many applicants there are this year?

For the people who are doing national college match, are your incomes lower than 60,000?

Yes. My family’s income was less than 50,000 back when my father had a job, and since he lost his job, our finances have certainly been a lot lower than they were before.

My family’s is 30k ,so yes

yup, way less

about 20k

Sat dates made me think that the results would be released on the 28th. Can’t wait for the 21st, so nervous!

Somewhere between a third and a half of you will be chosen finalist. This is a national award and great to put on your applications. The best thing about being a QB finalist, however, is being able to take advantage of the National College Match process. You get to apply early decision to 8 of the country’s top colleges for a 4 year guaranteed free ride. Even those of you who are scared of the binding commitment should keep researching colleges and rank as many schools as you feel comfortable with. One reason the match numbers are historically low is because students are afraid to rank many colleges except the non-binding and most prestigious Universities. No one has ever regretted being matched to a QB college! So take a chance on that free ride

But even those who aren’t chosen as finalist - check the individual college requirements for schools who will take your QB app with an automatic fee waiver – some do. And all the colleges that offer match packages offer outstanding no loan FA to anyone with a family income < 65K. So ALL you guys, anyone who is a QB applicant, has a chance to really win the lottery this admissions season. So keep working on those supplements and keep your grades up and keep supporting each other!

I’m curious. Is there any chance that questbridge will choose a student that has an income of 100k?
