omg…anyone could help me :
could we drop from QB right now? I am a finalist…but I am thinking I more want to do ED for a non-QB school…
Thx!!!1!

i think it’s really up to you…

in my case, i just wrote “married” and explained that my parents are not divorced, but they live a part due to our financial circumstances. I used the space provided in most of the financial forms (except CSS) to elaborate more on my situtation

I don’t think it will matter at all if you write either married or separated
unless they ask for a proof that one of your parents is a noncustodial parent

You should ask a person who is an expert in this matter; I’m not really sure with my answers haha

Do I still have to fill out the uncommon application for University of Chicago if I am a finalist for Questbridge and applying to University of Chicago?

the answers to most of these questions are easily found on none other than Questbridge.org

I couldn’t find it?

According to the Questbridge table, you don’t have to do the Uncommon application for the Match, but you do have to do it for regular admissions.

yea thanks harvardprincess, I think I am just going to put married, it’s not a big deal.

need to make essays great ;)

Can anyone confirm whether or not we need to send the required application materials to all the schools that we ranked when we submitted our questbridge applications?
For example, I ranked 1) Pomona 2) Stanford 3) Columbia
However, I don’t want to apply to Stanford anymore (mostly because I don’t have enough time to fill out the app). Will not applying to all the schools that I ranked jeopardize my chances at winning the scholarship?!

I don’t think it would have any effect. If it did, then all those who accidentally missed a deadline for one school would risk their chances at all other schools, and that seems absurd.

For Stanford, Yale and Princeton, is it advisable to reuse a Questbridge essay? I remember reading (way back when I began the Questbridge application) that we should copy and paste essays with discretion (implying that some college admissions boards would be less than thrilled if we did so).

Does anyone else remember this advisory? This isn’t meant to freak anyone out. I contacted Yale and a rep said that it would be fine if we just rehashed the same essays, but I’m curious as to whether or not it would be better to write another essay in the short time that we have left.

Good luck, everyone!

So, how does this QuestBridge match work? Do the colleges compare you to other QB finalists or all of the EA/ED pool, as well? And I know on the site, it says about 105 people were matched in '06, but does that only include the early pool or does that include the RD pool, too?

that’s just early. Many more were part of the regular decision pool.

and sprtsman14 I personally asked Stanford’s admission officer for the west coast and she told me that you can definitely reuse the essays because they look more at their own application than questbridge’s.

I can’t submit Stanford’s because I used up all my Common Application college choices - yes I know - but anyways it says on Stanford website they don’t accept the Common paper application. I also don’t have any time to complete the essays etc. so I hope this won’t reflect poorly on me in the match process.
Luckily I had already applied to Columbia and Yale back in August so all I had to do was send the financial info but I expressed mailed it instead of fax (because i don’t have access to one and it would be way more expensive to fax all those pages). The only thing I have left is to get my counselor to fill out another school report since I thought Yale would reuse the one from QB and my teacher’s to submit Columbia’s rec’s online. They are having a hard time because it asks who has the highest GPA in the class and things they wouldn’t know about and since my counselor is part time they wont be able to do it until this Tuesday. I hope they are flexible with these deadlines.

Isn’t Yale resuing it from QB? It says they don’t need the recs and ssr’s again

Are your chances of acceptance better if you apply to schools via QB or are your chances better if you apply early/regular with everyone else?

venusinfurs, it really depends on what colleges you ranked. It’s easier to get into some schools than others. For colleges like Stanford, Yale, and Princeton, it will be very difficult to make it in with QB since they’ll only accept very few and a lot of people are applying there.

Also, how do we go about dropping out of the College Match Process? Do we just not send in the documents by the required deadlines? Will we still be considered finalists and have our applications waived for regular decision?

fmcloud007 Yale doesn’t need recs but it needs SSR.

And i was wondering with the whole regular decision process. Let’s say i don’t get accepted to any of the ones i ranked. Will i be able to apply to them separately afterwards? Or do i have to do the regular decision forwarding. I don’t really get the regular decision forwarding. And do you think i can change which colleges i want to forward to?
/

sprtsman14, feel free to copy/paste essays for princeton, yale, stanford, and columbia. I was talking to the Stanford Admission officer a while ago and she basically implied that we will be first evaluted together (all the questbridge finalist) and then those that are approved will be thrown into the EA pool, so I doubt that in the EA pool, they will read your questbridge AND common app. :)

also I have a question about SATs and test scores. Some schools such as Amherst will just recieved all my information from Questbridge and the only things I have to do are the supplement and financial materials right? What about test scores? Will the just read what my counselor faxed to Questbridge? Also, I took the OCT SAT, should I fax it as soon as possible to Questbridge then?

thanks!

read carefully under National College Match, perhaps “What happens if I am not matched with any of the colleges that I ranked?”
"If you are not matched with any of the colleges that you ranked, then you are encouraged to continue on with the Regular Admission process, applying to any colleges that you choose. QuestBridge will forward your application in December to the partner colleges you indicated on your application. The colleges will then consider you for regular admission and financial aid. There are steps you must take in order to have your application considered for Regular Decision, see our instructions for the Regular Admission process. "

There’s a link to the instructions. It says you are encouraged, not required, meaning it’s your choice whether or not to use their Regular Decision forwarding service.

For those with specific questions regarding colleges, look carefully at the charts Questbridge provides. Personally, I’m impressed with how clearly everything is detailed.
http://www.questbridge.org/cmp/college_requirements.html
Look carefully at the links they provided. There’s an entire additional section of Stanford and Yale FAQs (linked from within the chart). I only know that because I’ve ranked those colleges, you’ll have to look for yourself for the other ones.

Within Stanford’s FAQs, there is “Can I use the same essay I submitted to QuestBridge for the Stanford application?
Yes. As long as all of the work is your own, you may copy and paste the same essay submitted through the QuestBridge application on to your Common Application with Stanford Supplement for submission online.”

Under the Finalists: Next Steps page, Questbridge also states:
“You are more than welcome to re-use your QuestBridge essays for those colleges’ applications, provided that they fit the prompts.”

To everyone who’s “just not” going to turn in their apps for the colleges they ranked before but no longer want to use the Match process for, that just seems unprofessional. I’d notify Questbridge somehow, even if it’s just a simple e-mail or phone call, regardless of your reason or excuse.

Good luck, everyone - calm down, work hard, read carefully.

I have 2 questions?

How may QB finalists get into YPS During RD?

Also can we use editied versions of the same essay?
