Questbridge Scholarship - 2008

I have a question:

It says in the Emory specific requirments:
“In the “Type of Application” section, QuestBridge finalists should write “QuestBridge Match” rather than checking a box.” But how am I supposed to do that when I can’t even write anything in. Do I just chose Early Action or Regular decision?

Thank guys and good luck everyone.

How does the CSS profile work? Does it cost money?

You detail your financial situation by answering the many questions. You can get a fee waiver if you qualify.

first 6 on CSS profile is free

also do you guys know if we can changes the essays we wrote for questbridge, seeing as they will just be forwarded directly to colleges for RD?

anyone about my SAT question?

I didn’t get the CSS for free when I used it for an EA colleges I applied to and had to have it done by Oct 1st… and the waivers for CSS are usually for extremely low income (15Kyr) so yes you have to pay if your college match school requires it.

I wouldn’t notify QB if you don’t want to continue with the process because it’s out of their hands now since they have already forwarded the applications for the match schools. Just let the schools know when you get an email from them. But I have to agree it’s kind of unprofessional unless you have a really good reason for not following through.

I have a question… Since I already submitted all my other college applications to schools outside of Questbridge how do I let them know now that I’m a QB College Match finalist (Common application is locked) - are we going to get a letter from Questbridge or anything like a certificate, press release in our local papers??? that we can forward to other colleges???

Yes I’m not that hopeful of being matched (low SAT2’s)but if it wasn’t for this whole process (I started last year with the Prep one) I would have been so clueless and I think that in itself has made all this worth it whether my college match schools want me or not.

I’m in trouble, I don’t really have the money to pay for the CSS Profile. How do I know if I qualify for a fee waiver?

CSS Profile will automatically grant 6 fee waivers based upon information you provide in your Profile report. See <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools; for an explanation.

How are you guys sending SAT official score reports? I haven’t received mine yet in the mail.

I sent my score reports from the collegeboard website.

Yeah, I think that’s what they want us to do. Each school provides an SAT and ACT code so scores can be sent from the test providers.

How do I send the official score report? Do I just go to collegeboard and go to the part where it says view and send scores and send them? Is that all?

Also, do we have to pay for sending these reports, or do we get a waiver?

For the first four colleges I ranked, I sent them in from the four free ones we get when we register.

I also used a SAT fee waiver so I had 4 free credits so I used one credit to send it to the fifth college.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately it seems that I don’t qualify for the CSS Profile fee waiver, so I’m screwed.

first 6 is free guys, so if you ranked 8 schools for questbridge, you only really have to pay for 2, which is not that bad

CSS is not free for everyone. Chagilsma which schools did you pick that are requiring that you submit?

Chagilsma, I strongly urge you to contact Questbridge about your situation. I’m sure the last thing they want is for someone to have to withdraw due to finances! Other ideas are to contact your church if applicable, or talk to your guidance counselor about getting help within your community. It seems like there would a be Rotary Club, Business and Professional Women’s Club, etc. that would be happy to help out.

dang the Amherst head of admission told me that first 6 are free :(

I ranked Swarthmore, Williams, Amherst, Emory, and Vassar, all of which require the CSS Profile. At least Columbia doesn’t.

I will talk to my guidance counselor tomorrow, 2blue, and ask her about my options. Maybe I’ll talk to my school principal also.

If I contact QuestBridge, what could they do to help me?

GRRRRRRR…QB should be done earlier in the year so that we have more time for essays and financial stuff. Wouldn’t it be better if we did all QB stuff in summer, like due August 31, then get our notices on September 26th, and have the deadline n November???/ now i’ll probably have to skip 3 days of school for finishing QB stuff, which i have a very low chance of even getting into, and then having to make everything up…OMG!!!
