Is 5th ave really loud at night, around 2am. how early in the morning does it get busy?

Stores generally close at standard times from 9 - 11 depending on the store. So there generally isnt as much foot traffic, just people getting home from going out. In terms of cars, there are always cars on fifth, but it generally lets up after midnight. In the morning, its gets pretty busy starting before rush hour, like around 6ish. It continues to build for the next few hours until it peaks around noon. (This is my experience working in Manhattan, so if you have a different experience, by all means share)

Thanks, the thing is I’ll be living in Rubin Hall which is basically 3 blocks from the start of fifth at washington square, so since its a residential area, hardly any stores around, or buisnesses im hoping it would stay quiet, i’d like to jeep my windows open and sleep until my 11:00 am classes lol.

What floor are you on?

10 (10 char)

Oh lol, you have no problem at all. The noise may rise up to your room, but it wont be bad at all. My brother lives on the 12th floor up by Columbia which is a residential area too, and you cant hear any street noise at night.

ok great, i guess i cna leave my windows open at night to make up for lack of a/c

oh lack of ac will be bad. i also lack ac out at notre dame. goodness. however, you will get a nice breeze at night.

theres a heat wave here in NYC, i live in the suburbs and my thermometer has hit 40 C most of the past 2 weeks, if it keeps up it wont be good.

If you can’t take noise, you’re not gonna be happy living in NYC! Honestly, there is noise pretty much 24/7 but you get used to it. Don’t expect quiet, especially if you’re in a dorm with no a/c and have your windows open. :)

I live in NYC and I’ve been to manhatten hundreds of times, i know what the noise is like. I was just wondering how much will it affect my sleep after i’ve been up all night drinking.

maybe you should be more concerned about how your being up all night drinking will affect your sleep/life/school instead of the other way around lol

Sleep=I have no early classes (mondays+wed start at 11 am, Teus+thurs start at 9:30)

life=im still alive no problem there

school= no issue here since im talking about select weekend nights of the week (thursday, friday, saturday)

Your sleep habits will be more affected by your roommates and others on your floor than by traffic outside your dorm. Don’t count on getting long periods of re****l sleep when you’re living in a dorm. You may not have any early classes but your roommates might or you may get one who is just an early riser who likes to go to breakfast everyday. One of the lessons everyone learns from living in a dorm is that you need to be flexible.

Im good friends with one of my roomates from home but im in a triple and my other roomate is cool also. We all have similar sleeping patterns, and i’ve slept in dorms where certain roomates had early classes and had no trouble staying asleep. And by the looks of it it seems as if Rubin hall seems antisocial this year…

Out of curiousity, how exactly did you arrive at this conclusion?

How could you possibly know whether or not Rubin is antisocial before even moving in?

I’m in Rubin 819, btw.

i was wondering the same thing slick…we haven’t even met 95% of the people we are in the same building with…

There’s no possible way to tell now if a particular dorm will be social or not. It’s not the dorm itself, it’s the people in it. Rubin will have hundreds of residents. Only a few are posting here. Don’t form judgments at this point.

Example: The rubin hall 06-07 facebook group has like 4 people who responded to a thread about parties, while on the other hand Hayden’s and Weinstein’s facebook groups already have numerous 3 page threads about how much fun they will have.
