question about academic advising

My academic advising is tomorrow, and I was wondering, did you go with a parent?

And also says, “purchase the 06-07 uci general catalogue at uci bookstore”, but I’m assuming this is uncessary.

I went with my parents. You don’t HAVE to bring your parents. If you want them to see what you’ll be doing for the next four years then you should. I brought my dad because I wanted him to see how engineering is at UCI since he is an EE himself. You might as well bring your parents unless they already know everything.

If it’s still on sale, the general catalogue should only be $6.50. That’s so cheap. This will be the cheapest textbook you’ll EVER buy. It should stay handy for a long time (all 4 years?), and I was told to buy it by a lot of UCI students. The catalogue could be found on the website…but the book is only $6.50!

catalogue:

aight, I guess I’ll take my dad too.

I don’t know, I guess I’ll buy the catalogue later, I don’t see why I gotta buy it now if I can just use online.

Just as long as I don’t need the catalogue for the advising session.

It’s 6.50 now and 12-20 dollars (I forgot) normally. Have fun at advising =P.

I didnt bring my parents and I did buy a book. I used it more than 10-20 times last year - its got a ton of info and its so much easier than trying to load a sluggish PDF online.

I didn’t bring my parents, since I knew my parents wouldn’t be of much help in terms of me choosing classes. But if you’d like their input, definitely go with them.

I DID buy a catalogue, though I wish I knew at the time that it was available online. for free. haha I’m kind of cheap.

man that was boring, but I learned a bit of new stuff.

My fall schedule is so tired, just hum core and one low div. poli sci class. LOL

is it mandatory to RSVP for the academic advising? i tried calling today but i just got a recording, saying they take same-day appointments, so im guessing they’re closed on sundays? im planning to go to tomorrow’s session from 1:30-3:30.

The catalogue is available online, but you should still buy one at the bookstore. Why? Because the online catalogue is updated every year. But for you, you should only be interested in the catalogue that is issued your freshman year. You are responsible for fulfilling the requirements in the catalogue for your freshman year. So if something changes your junior year, you’re not responsible for the new requirements. So just pay the $7 or whatever and buy the catalogue.

^ Ohh I didn’t know that. thanks! I’m glad I bought one now. and it is easier to navigate through the actual book than a long PDF.

adingbobo- UCI offices are only open Mondays through Fridays, usually from around 8-5. It’s always a good thing to RSVP; I don’t know what happens if you don’t.
