Question about admissions

i was wondering if illinois has a “quota” system where the university will only accept X number of applicants from each high school. I am slightly worried as a junior in high school because my high school is very competitive (Hinsdale Central). I have taken a pretty difficult courseload and am ranked near the 25% in my class. I am looking to score a 30-31 on the ACT though. Will the class rank hurt my chances of admission to the business school (for example)? or is my high school taken into account?

it does not do that for high schools but it is required by state law to accept a certain number of in state seniors. that would be way too complicated to do. however they do generally know what schools have produced the best freshmen so they would be more willing to accept students from schools they know have produced good students compared to unknown schools

But I also have heard that UIUC evaluates all OOS, IS, and International students equally. Is this true?

yea, but they have to admit more in-state students in the end. so it depends on when they are reviewing your app. at the beginning they look at everyone’s the same but when it comes down to the end, they start figuring out what spots (OOS, Int., in-state) need to be filled up a bit more.

UIUC does not discriminate against OOS vs IS, but I’m pretty sure that international admissions is harder like with every other school. However, they do adjust for well-known Illinois high schools which they’re familiar with, such as Hinsdale Central. How much of a boost that gives you is anyone’s guess.

Since your numbers are on the low end, and you’re that worried about admissions, you should just apply to LAS and then apply to transfer to Business after 2 years.
