I have a few questions about the anticipatory exams.

Is it to my advantage to test out of a class like Calc II?
Do we get a graphing calculator for the entire test?
Is it a hard test?

Any answers are appreciated.

When this question was posed at our Mass send off, the alums there strongly suggested that no one who needs calc as part of their major - for example Engineers - should test out or take AP credits for calc. It was commmunicated that this is NOT recommended. I also undertand that at Lehigh calculators are NOT ALLOWED in calc, so I would kind of assume they won’t be on the exam.

My recommendation is that you contact your advisor or your Dean and pose these questions as it really depends upon your major and whether or not Calc is a base needed for said major.

Thanks for the advice. I’m a CSB major, so math is part of my requirement.

Calculators aren’t allowed in calculus?

That was my son was told, he is a Bioengineering major. You should email your advisor or Dean and ask.

AnonXx,

if i were you, i would try to place out of calc 22. i hear calc 23 is actually much easier than calc 22. however, it may also be extremely hard to place out of it, but it’s worth a shot. i do not know how the test works, so i’m sorry i can’t help you out there.

There are no calculators allowed in Calculus- they won’t even transfer in a Calc course from another school if calculators were allowed. I would strongly suggest taking the class and not opting out. Some of my son’s classmates dropped the class mid-term with bad grades and took the AP credit, and then struggled in Calc 23.
