Penn is my first choice school and I will be applying ED this fall. Since Penn is extremely competitive (to say the least), I want to keep my options open. UC Riverside offers a non-binding Guaranteed Admissions Program to high school students. If I apply to this program, can I still apply ED to Penn?

I would imagine so, as it’s not binding, unless UC Riverside doesn’t allow it (in a SCEA situation)

Thanks. That’s what I figured. However, I emailed admissions just in case.

It’s my understanding that you can. I applied ED to Penn and EA to a few other schools. The UC deadline for applying is December 1st. You won’t hear back from Penn on your ED application until around December 15th. For this reason, you are free to apply to UC even though you’ve applied ED to Penn. I think the general rule is that you can only apply to one school where, if accepted, you’re obligated to attend. You can apply to any non-binding schools as long as they don’t object (Stanford, Yale, and Georgetown are non-binding but won’t let you apply ED if you apply EA to them).
