what’s requirements to transfer to business school? and since b-school is three yr program, students should transfer to b-school in their soph year right?
on the website, it says 3 courses must be taken and what else
and is it true that 3.6+ GPA is also a requirment and only top 10% of students can get it?
if so, i assume many kids who wanted to go to ross b-school and applied to lsa don’t get into b-school then what do they do? tranfer to other college?
i really don’t get it

Most students who don’t get into the B-School stay on at the University and major in Economics or some other major.

3.6+ GPA is NOT a requirement. The mid-80% GPA is around 3.29-3.91. And you don’t have to be in the top 10% (I don’t even know how you can measure that). Grades alone will not get you into Ross.

Q: What are the criteria for admission?

A: We are looking for students who:
Demonstrate concise writing and clear goals in their essays,
Have developed and demonstrated their leadership abilities and initiative in campus involvement, community service, or work experience, and
Have a strong academic record with full course loads (14-16 credit hours) and a challenging curriculum. Good performance in qualitative and quantitative courses is important. High grades are important but we know it is not unusual to see grade fluctuations in the first year since most students are still acclimating. Your overall record is what we judge, not one class. However, to be admitted it is important to be competitive in our pool of applicants, which means doing well academically.

how hard is it to get in b-school from lsa?
on the website, it said that most students who want to get in b-school transfer from lsa, so i assume many lsa kids want to transfer to b-school in their second year. so, hard competitive is it? how many apply and how many get in?

I don’t have numbers, but you should probably be in the top 25% of LSA statistically. The people who don’t get in just bring down the curve in econ classes for all the math double majors ;-)

The Business school is self-selective. Many students who come to Michigan (LSA) with the intent of majoring in Business don’t even bother applying because they simply cannot maintain a 3.0+ GPA and applying to the Ross with a sub-3.0 GPA is pretty much a waste of time. The majority of successful Ross applicants have maintained a 3.5+ GPA while at Michigan, which as Chibearsfan points point, pretty much means the top 20% of the students in LSA. Students with 3.0-3.4 GPAs have a shot, but not a good one. At Michigan, maintaing a 3.0-3.3 GPA is not that difficult, but maintaining a 3.5+ GPA does require some serious studying, especially given the pre-requisites for applying to Ross (Calculus, Economics I and II, English and Accounting).

As for the acceptance rate, I’d say that roughly 50% of LSA students who apply to Ross get in, but that %age progable rises to over 80% for 3.7+ students and drops to 20% for sub 3.3 students.
