Question About Cal Grant

So I attended a UC the 1st year after high school and I was receiving a Cal Grant B Entitlement Award for that year, but I ended up completing my degree in an out-of-state university. I want to get a teacher’s credential at a CSU, and I was wondering is there anyway I could use the remainder of my Cal Grant to help pay for that? Also, it has been around 2-3 since I completed the bachelor’s degree, so I haven’t been in school for a couple of years.

Does anyone know of any programs to help lessen the cost for student teachers? Grants, scholarships, etc? I know there’s the SUG, but I was told that it’s all out of funding atm :frowning: .

You aren’t going to be able to use the Teacher Credential Program Cal-Grant benefit for your credential. Recipients must reactivate their Cal Grant benefits within 15 months of the end of the term for which they last received
payment. Leaves of absence from the TCP will not be approved if they result in the recipient exceeding the 15 month
grace period. If it has been 2-3 years since you were out of school, you definitely have exceeded the 15 month timeframe. Even if the 15 months wasn’t up, heading out of state might have rendered you ineligible as well. I don’t believe a standard Cal A/B can be used after you have completed your bachelor’s.

Ah, what a shame. Seems like I wasted my Cal Grant :frowning: haha.
