Question about Collegeboard's profile on Harvard

I’m a bit confused about collegeboard’s little blurb on Harvard. Under standardized exams, CB gives a range of the “middle 50%”'s SAT scores. The range for CR for example is 700 to 800. So does this mean that people in the top 25% of Harvard’s class has an 800 and that the bottom 25% has below a 700? If you got a 750, would this put you solidly in the middle of the Harvard class? How does this work exactly?

“So does this mean that people in the top 25% of Harvard’s class has an 800 and that the bottom 25% has below a 700?”

yes.

“If you got a 750, would this put you solidly in the middle of the Harvard class?”

not necessarily. the distributions might be off, but, generally, 750 would be about average.

I thought the middle 50% meant that 50% get above that score and 50% get below that score.

No, middle 50 percent means 25 percent get a higher score, and 25 percent get a lower score, because 25+50+25=100, and 100 percent is the whole group. This, by the way, is the way NACAC likes colleges to report score ranges: by showing the interquartile range WITHOUT reporting a median score.
