Question about Course Selection

I’m going to a very tough school next year (Duke) and am planning on being pre-med.

Even though I took AP Calculus BC this year as a senior, I’ve decided to take Calculus I in college next year. Also, I have a choice between Chem1 or accelerated Chem1 and decided on taking just regular Chem1.

It is usually difficult for me to adapt to a new environment, which is the reason why I’m taking a light schedule.

Does taking less difficult science classes hurt in med school admission?

I’m aiming at top 10 medical schools. Thanks

I HATE YOU!!! lol jk but i’m going to UNC next year.

Anyway, from what I’ve heard is that taking less difficult courses doesn’t matter too much in med school admissions, because the adcoms know that if you’ve completed the prereqs, then that’s already a very difficult course selection, i’m sure BDM or BRM or one of the others will be able to answer your question better than I can though.

Is the accelerated chem course for chem majors? Do you plan on being a chem major?

A lot of science courses have a course intended for majors and a course intended for others. If you fall in the “other” category, I would take the easier class.

Nah, acclerated is a good call. It’s generally considered a little easier (labs are less tedious) in addition to freeing up that extra semester. As HPAC will warn you, you will then be expected to take biochem on the back end – but that’s okay, 227’s a good course anyway.

So theres no problem with me taking Calculus I?

I’m assuming you mean Math 31. It’s fine; you’ll want to do 32 as well. 25, I would worry about.
