Question about deferment/applying under another major

I have found myself becoming more and more dissatisfied with the major I applied to the UCs with and I feel that it is not a good idea for me to attend any of the UCs this fall with a major I would not like. Ive looked up the websites and the potential major I would want to switch is not on the list of acceptable major changes and it usually takes a quarter or 2 just to be eligible to switch. So my question is, would I be able to defer my UCSB acceptance for a quarter or year and take the necessary econ classes in the fall and then transfer, or would I have to reapply this fall for the Fall of 2010? I greatly appreciate the time anyone has taken to read this, thank you.

i don’t think you can defer your acceptance, unless it is for reasonable circumstances, like working for a year or something, this is for changing your major, so if you apply again and you have a good gpa, then you should have no worries

You should first contact the department and inquire about changing and ask them what they suggest you do if the change is not possible, do they suggest you reapply again or see if they offer an alternative. Additionally you may inquire about double majoring with your current major, then after a quarter or two , drop your current major and just pursue the one major.

Defferment is rarely granted unless it is for something like military duty or really extraneous circumstances. … .additionally if you defer that doesnt alter your major.
